Obituary of Lillian Frances Thompson
Lillian Frances Thompson, 89 of Herndon, Virginia, formerly of Locust Grove and Manassas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. She is survived by her husband, Harold Thompson, to whom she was married for 68 years.
Lillian is also survived by her two daughters, Dawn Burgess (Butch) and Margo Wolcott (Kevin), her grandchildren Thomas Burgess (Haley), Ryan Burgess (Kelly), Kacie Wolcott, Justin Wolcott, her great granddaughter Olivia Lynn Burgess, her sisters Lorraine Witt and Barbara Crunkleton as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Curtis Walters and her sister Sylvia Shuff.
Lillian was born on Bent Mountain, Virginia on May 13, 1933, to Prudence Mabel Walters and Everett Sprowl Walters. She graduated from Bent Mountain High School, and completed her education with a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Radford University. She was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years and retired from Westgate Elementary in Manassas in 1999.
Throughout her life, Lillian loved to garden, sew, read, birdwatch and travel with Harold. She planned family vacations and get togethers. She was active in church, taught Sunday school for many years and after retirement, she volunteered by tutoring children.
Visitation and a memorial service will be held in Herndon on Tuesday, January 31. Another visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11, in Roanoke, Virginia followed by a graveside service at Rest Vale Cemetery in Copper Hill, Virginia where Lillian will be laid to final rest.
