Obituary of Rilda Swiger Chatfield

Rilda Swiger Chatfield died in Falls Church, Virginia, on January 29, 2023, at age 93. She was born in Missouri, grew up in Illinois, and worked as a nurse in Washington and Alaska before marrying Benjamin Vantine Chatfield, to whom she remained married for more than six decades until his death in February 2022. After living with her new family in California, Alaska, and Ethiopia, Mrs. Chatfield settled in Arlington and Falls Church in the 1960s. She attended Rock Spring Congregational Church for decades before moving to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington. Mrs. Chatfield volunteered with both church and community organizations, and she enjoyed international travel, playing bridge, and gardening. She is survived by her daughter Meg, her son Ben and his wife Mythreyi, and by her grandchildren Lauren, Michael, Chris, and Jaya.
