Elonzo Curtis Haralson, of Fredericksburg, VA, born on December 21, 1929, in Gadsden, Alabama, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2023, at the age of 93. Elonzo lived a full and fulfilling life and touched the lives of many with his kindness, intelligence, and dedication.

 

Elonzo served in the Army for 20 years, dedicating his life to the service of his country. After his retirement from the military, he worked as a contractor engineer for NASA, where he applied his skills and knowledge to advance space exploration. In his spare time, Elonzo enjoyed reading science fiction and researching genealogy, and he was known for his love of learning and his vast knowledge in various fields.

 

Elonzo was predeceased in death by his children Linda Maynard, Elonzo C. Haralson, Jr., James Haralson, and Edmund Haralson, his first wife Jobyna Haralson, his second wife Verda "Bo" Haralson, his sister Nila Rowe, and brother Bobby Haralson. Although he faced many challenges and heartaches in his life, he never lost his positive spirit and determination.

 

Elonzo is survived by his brother James Leon Haralson, of Anniston, Alabama. Nine grandchildren, Kristina Dowell, Dusty Burgess, Gloria Maynard Beyreuther, Sharon Maynard, James Haralson Jr., Kevin Haralson, David Haralson, Genevieve Haralson, and Rebecca Brennan, as well as five great-grandchildren, Quanah Potts, Zachary Potts, Isaac Beavers, Isabella Beavers, and Jovie Beyreuther. Elonzo's legacy will live on through his loving family, who will always cherish the memories they shared with him.

 

Elonzo will be remembered for his intelligence, his love of learning, and his dedication to his family and country. He was a true patriot, an accomplished engineer, and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of his loved ones, but his memory will continue to inspire them.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Elonzo's honor. Elonzo's family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Hall of King George, VA for their compassionate care and support during his final days.
