I met Dede my freshman year of college at WVU. She was a light to all! I remember thinking how fearless she was. She could make friends with anyone in a room. I was so blessed to have met her. Sending lots of prayers to the family and friends of Dede. What a light in this world that will be dearly missed.

Q: How did you meet Deirdre?
A: CJ and I met Dede for the first time at the Circle Jerks show at the Black Cat in Washington, DC, on the evening of July 12, 2022. Her mom, Jen, was so excited to have her there with her to relive her punk rock younger years. We all ended up staying in the back, but Dede (and her friend) wanted to go down closer to the stage and into the mosh pit, as she had never experienced that before. It was a fantastic night. And although Jen is a newer friendship, the times we have met up, she would never fail to tell us about how Dede was the love of her life and that she was so proud of her daughter. Our hearts break over this tragic loss, and we send our love, hugs and healing thoughts during this difficult time.

My favorite memories are from sports events, soccer and swimming with us volunteering and watching our girls play. Dede was such a great athlete! Sorry I couldn’t attend the event as I had to run a half marathon, which I devoted to Dede in my mind. Jen and AJ, I will be there for you and I hope you find strength in this difficult time.

Dede and my daughter, Rini, were inseparable in elementary school and maintained their friendship long after. My favorite memory is discovering that Dede and her family were on the same cruise ship for a Christmas cruise back in 2011. My Dad became the grandpa for both sweet girls and took them for face painting and other activities. Dede was an integral part of my daughter's childhood, and I will never forget those gorgeous eyes. Jen, AJ, and family--please know that we will carry her memory with us and cherish every moment we were able to spend with her.

i love you, your energy was beautiful and light. you were the funniest person ever and you could bust out laughing. i miss spending our birthdays together since you are the 13th & i’m the 12th, our birthdays have been nothing but fun and craziness, its a memory i’ll always remember and i’ll always contuine to celebrate on the 13th for you. i wish we were able to do the plans we set out to do, and even if we didnt get to all of them, my favorite plan was growing old together and laughing about the good ol days over a good fashion smoke on some french porches. it makes me really sad i won’t be able to do that but i promise to you my love; i’ll live life finding a way to honor you by honoring for your love for social justice, the environment and the love you had for the people you know and strangers around you. you were always so smart, beautiful and downright hilarious. i’m more than grateful i have met you. you changed my life in more ways than one. thank you for being my best friend and someone at the end of the day, truly loved me. i’ll never forget how much you made me feel loved and cared about. i miss talking to you and i miss you. come haunt me and hang for awhile ):

Dede was such a fun person to be around. Her colorful energy always brightened up the room no matter where she was. I enjoyed every minute i spent with her, she would always have some dumb and funny stories she would tell me and i’d always laugh until my ribs hurt. Although we didn’t hang out as much, every time we met up it would be like we have been friends for years because she had the knack of making people feel comfortable around her. I’m so great full that I had the chance to meet Dede within my lifetime, she was the yellow that everyone deserves to have in their lives. Dede, thank you for being my yellow.

I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember Dede at Armstrong and at Girls on the Run. I am also grateful for her kindness to Sari during some pretty hard high school years. Dede was a constant presence and source of joy in my life, and so was your family. I want to thank Dede for the time we had together and the love she, and all of you, have given and shown me. I am so grateful for the memories we share and her loyal, supportive, loving friendship. She truly was a sister, a soulmate to me. From the moment we met, we had a spark that never died out. Through hard times we loved and supported each other without judgment or question. The strength she held and the perseverance I saw in her throughout our 6 years together makes me so proud. It is a blessing to have known her let alone love her.
She will always be with me, with us. We will always be with her. She will be there for us in a sunny day or a star filled sky. The difference she has made in the world is unmeasurable. The difference she has made in my life, in who I am today, is indescribable. May her memory live on in all of us.

Dede was a vibrant young woman. She wanted to change the world for better. She was determined and ambitious about environmental science. Moreover, she was always up for a good adventure. I will always remember her mischievous look. She would always tilt her head down while her eyes looked up with a grin on her face. She would proceed with a bizarre statement or adventure, but I always enjoyed it. I also appreciated how she could talk with me for hours without any hesitation whatsoever. I loved our conversations, I will always miss them. I will always miss her.

Dede burst into our lives as a baby sitter for our twin boys. While the time was brief, she had a lasting impact on our twins, spending time in the garage building 'things' out of wood, using power tools and generally entertaining the two boys.
As they grew they would see Dede buzzing around in her little brown car and would always shout and wave to her.
She will be missed.

I went to TK and SL with Dede and will never forget what a genuine excitement for life she had. She embodied joie de vivre and all who knew her will remember her for that. I’ll never forget the fun we had at the climate change March downtown senior year and the trip we took to the mall to search for her Seahawkins dress. I won’t forget how she had brave dreams of being president and a fire for justice that no one could put out! She loved with open arms and no fear of what anyone else thought. She was a warrior in every way imaginable. Her spirit and legacy will live on in everyone she touched. Rest in peace sweet Dede & fly high!

Dede was a student in my English 12 class at South Lakes HS, and I am incredibly grateful for the time that I got to spend with her. She was so bright and kind, and she connected well with students and staff alike. I admire the strong desire she had to help others and make the world a better place. Remembering
