Remembrance of Barbara Louise Kravitz: Born August 8, 1927, Died March 21, 2023

My Aunt left Rusk, Texas with a suitcase and a one way ticket to New York with a dream to become a big city model. At this time the largest city she had ever seen had less than 5,000 residents and its tallest building was three stories. Lots of teenagers have big dreams but she made hers come true. A story like this at any age and in any era would be admirable but Barbara (Bobbie) was fresh out of high school and our country was deep into World War II. Her family thought she was crazy and feared for her safety; the neighbors thought it scandalous and even her friends expected her to come back with her dreams shattered but Barbara Louise Guenther never looked back.

While working for one of the country's top modeling agencies she met and married the love of her life Seymour Kravitz - a war hero, perfect gentlemen and loving Father to their only daughter Patricia.

My Aunt greatly admired Jackie Kennedy and possessed an equal amount of style, grace and charm. Always beautiful, she bore an uncanny resemblance to the former First Lady. At her Father's funeral back in Rusk several attendees were surprised we were personal friends of the then Jacqueline Onassis!

My Aunt was a special woman. She came from humble beginnings, born into the middle of the Great Depression and came of age during the second Great War. With only a few dollars in her pocket she made her way successfully a long way from home - both geographically and especially culturally. She was a loving wife and mother and became a well known hostess and member of society in and around Washington, D.C.

My Aunt was many things to many people but to me she was a shining example of what grit and determination could attain even against long odds.

 Stephen Guenther

Son of Henry Lawrence Guenther - Bobbie's big brother

A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
