I am fortunate enough to have known Rick & Madelyn for over 40 years. Rick was the “salt of the Earth”and one of the best and brightest people I’ve ever known.We had many laughs & many good times together. You could not ask for a better friend. He was like a brother that I never had. It was my good fortune to have known such a cool guy. I’m going to miss him terribly.

I am so sad to hear of Rick's passing. He was a very big part of Kristen and Kelly's hockey experience. We will always appreciate his coaching and influence on our kids. Gabby, I am so sorry for the loss of your father. I wish I knew of this sooner, Nick and I would have been there today to show our support to you all. Praying for the whole Scrader family! God bless!

Coach Schrader was the first coach to allow my five year old on the ice around 25 years ago! He welcomed her and gave her her first chance to really feel what the game was like. , allowing her to skate with the big girls. It was a really kind and welcoming thing to do, and showed a generous spirit that won’t be forgotten.

We will miss you dearly, more than words can describe. I Will miss our debates those were always fun, we ended those debates with laughter and meeting in the middle. Traveling together with special memories of trip to Sicily, the annual Christmas dinners together, gatherings at the Schrader home, watching Nicholas and Gabby grow so fast. Rick was a fun person to talk to. I enjoyed his no nonsense Buffalo humor and insights about life. I admired the mature and straight forward way he faced his terminal illness and gratitude for his life. I only got to know him in the past few years, and will miss him.
