Obituary of Donald Glenn Stebbins

Donald Glenn Stebbins, age 92, died peacefully in his home in Reston, VA on April 14, 2023 of congestive heart failure. Don was born April 17, 1930 in St. Charles, IL, the son of the late Anna Lucille Carlson and stepfather, James Rush.

Don proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. While stationed in Daytona Beach, Florida he met his future wife Joan Elizabeth Dahl and they later married on May 1, 1954 in Chicago, IL where they began their family. Over the years they raised their six children in Arlington Heights, IL, Hesperia, CA, and retired to Haymarket, VA. Don spent his entire professional career in the banking industry serving as President and CEO of both Suburban Bank and Trust Carpentersville and High Desert National Bank. Don was also involved in a number of charitable and civic organizations in the communities that the banks served. A lifelong sports fan, once retired Don enjoyed golfing, traveling and became an avid reader.

Don and Joan were married for 61 years until her passing in 2015. He is survived by their children Patricia L. Schoettler and husband Robert of Sugar Land, TX, Donald J. Stebbins and wife Melissa of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Richard M. Stebbins of Daly City, CA, Amy J. Heffernan and husband Tom of Oak Hill, VA, Steven D. Stebbins and wife Tina of Ashburn, VA and Barbara A. Stebbins of Herndon, VA, and seven grandchildren Kimberly and Julie Heffernan, Matthew, Michael, and Timothy Stebbins, and Clara and Garrett Stebbins.

A private service will be held at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
