Obituary of Henry Brian Becker

Please share a memory of Henry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Henry Brian Becker was born into eternal life on April 20, 2023 at the age of 76.

Henry (Hank) was born in Mineola, New York and grew up in Hempstead, New York to Eric and Mary Becker.  He was the youngest (and his mom’s favorite) of their four sons.  He met his beloved wife, Kathleen Love, at St. John’s University, N.Y., where he graduated in 1968 with a degree in Physics.  On September 1st, 1968, Hank and Kathy were married, and they moved to Northern Virginia where Hank got a job working for the Department of the Navy.  He later received his master’s degree in electrical engineering although he specialized in Nuclear Physics.  Hank continued his civilian career working for the Navy and Department of Defense focusing on Radiation Safety where he received numerous accolades and awards for his advancement in radiation detection safety equipment.

Hank and Kathy moved to Sterling Park in 1973, and Hank spent his free time gardening, raising 1 daughter and 3 sons, volunteer coaching in youth sports, helping their Catholic church, Christ the Redeemer, and working on his mountain home property in West Virginia.  Hank loved visiting his family back home in New York, where he cherished visits with his 3 brothers and their growing families.  Hank retired from the Department of Defense after 31 years and then worked part time as a consultant declassifying Federal Government materials and eventually fully retired to tend his 14-acre retirement property in Loudoun County.  Although his wife Kathy was tragically killed in 2007, Hank continued caring for their youngest son, Russell, and tending his property with his Massey Ferguson tractor which was Kathy’s special retirement gift to him.

Hank loved his family and his grandchildren always wanting to hear updates on everyone’s lives.  He was most excited when he found out that his grandson Thomas was majoring in Physics and wanted to borrow his military surplus Geiger counter for a radiation experiment.   He loved bragging about all his grandchildren especially when he saw their charitable love at work in the lives of those around them.  He longed to carry on family traditions for the last few years just so he could see his grandchildren growing up.  Hank was a devoted brother, husband, father, and most important to him--- a caring grandfather to 9 wonderful grandchildren.

Hank is preceded in death by his son Todd, his wife Kathy, his parents, Eric and Mary, his in-laws Victor and Vivian Love, his brother Bill, and his sister-in-law Janet.

Hank is survived by children and grandchildren, Sharon and Par Molen (Kat, Anna, Robin, Rose, and Laura), Brian and Cheryl Becker (Sabrina, Stephanie, Thomas, and Addison), and Russell Becker; his brothers Carl (Barbara Becker) and Eric (Maria) Becker.

Reception to follow burial at home of Sharon Molen in nearby Round Hill, VA
