Obituary of Wayne Ronald Mathis

Wayne Ronald (Ronnie) Mathis, of Berrien County, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on April 30, 2023. Ron is survived by his wife, Betty, and his children, Amy Mathis and Charles Applegate, and Cindy and Matt Raba. Ron was blessed with 3 grandchildren, Maddison (Nick), Brynne and Bennett. Ron is preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Nelle Mathis, and his brother Dawson Mathis.

After graduating from Valdosta State University, Ron joined the Air Force and trained to become an accomplished B-52 Navigator Bombardier. He served numerous overseas missions and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Superior Service Medal and a host of other awards and accolades. After 20 years of service, Ron retired as a Lt. Colonel and began his second successful career serving his country as a Defense Contractor. After retiring completely, Ron enjoyed traveling with his family, teaching classes at his church, and watching old westerns and his favorite team, the Atlanta Braves.

A Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Ox Hill Baptist Church in Chantilly, Virginia. The family will receive visitors on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 5-8 pm at the Adams Green Funeral Home in Herndon, Virginia.
