Obituary of Lynda Mary Evers

Please share a memory of Lynda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lynda Mary Evers, 78, joined her husband Nick in eternal rest on Sunday, May 7 2023. She bravely battled Alzheimers and Parkinsons for over 6 years and passed at her memory care facility in Ashburn with her daughter by her side.

She is preceded in death by her parents George and Ruth Egbert, siblings Alice, George Jr. (Buvy), James and Daniel and husband of 46 years, Nick. She is survived by her twin brother Lynn, and daughter Mindy and son-in-law Joe, and grandchildren Joey, Jack, Emma, Cate and Kolbe, and many nieces and nephews.

Lynda was born and raised in Lansing, Michigan where she attended St. Therese’s Catholic School and St. Mary’s high school alongside her twin brother, and continued on to receive her degree in communications from Michigan State University. After graduation, she worked with her father at Oldsmobile for a period of time, until she earned the title of Director of the Bicentennial in Lansing where she planned and directed an enormous celebration in the state capital in 1976. During this time, she was introduced to her beloved husband Nick and fell in love instantly. They married on July 7, 1976 and settled down in Gaylord, Michigan. Their daughter Mindy was born the following year. They spent 5 years in Gaylord and then moved to Traverse City, and then on to Kalamazoo where they lived for almost 20 years. In 2002, they relocated to Charlotte, NC to be closer to Mindy and their grandchildren. But as her family grew, Lynda wanted to be even closer so they moved to Virginia where they remained and retired. Lynda took wonderful care of Nick as he was diagnosed with cancer and fought a hard battle. She would end up fighting her own battle as a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s came in 2017. Nick stayed by her side as she began to slip away and in 2021, she moved into a memory care facility in Ashburn. In 2023 she was given an additional diagnosis of Parkinson’s. Shortly after, she began to rapidly decline.

Lynda loved to sing and was well known for her dedication to her parish choir and as a talented soloist. She was incredibly dedicated to her Catholic faith and especially the pro-life movement. As the youngest of 6 siblings and part of a military family, she enjoyed whatever family time she could as her siblings and nieces and nephews were widely spread out across the country. Usually, this family time took place in her second home on Beaver Island, Michigan, her sanctuary. But to Lynda, her greatest joy was that of being mother and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and they brought her endless happiness.

We are filled with grief with her loss, but knowing that Lynda has reunited with Nick 11 months after his passing brings us great comfort. They are again walking hand in hand in the company of our Lord and Blessed Mother, and no doubt had the most beautiful reunion the heavens have seen.
