Obituary of Denalda Lynette Alexandre

Please share a memory of Denalda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Denalda Lynette Alexandre was born on July 1, 1969 in Nassau, Bahamas to the parentage of Lealand and Emerald Lightbourn. She was the fifth of seven children born to that union. In those days, relatives and friends would visit homes to "see" the baby. Whoever came to welcome the newest addition to the family would ask for the baby’s name. As it pertained to Denalda, each guest would receive the same response from her two-year-old sister, Melanie; "We az call her, Dede." And so, for all of her almost 54 years, we az call her Dede. Dede attended Kingsway Academy in Nassau from kindergarten to high school. Upon graduating, she studied at the College of the Bahamas for two years and then transferred to The Master’s College (now The Master’s University) in Newhall California, graduating on Mother's Day, May 8, 1993. The very next day, Dede married the love of her life, a fellow alumnus, Timothy Alexandre, and as the saying goes, the rest is history.

Dede loved deeply and laughed often. Her giggle was absolutely contagious, as hers came from deep within her belly. Her friends in the Bahamas recall her quick wit and snappy comebacks. In life, however, we all face our share of challenges, and Dede was not exempt. Through her laughter, she also experienced pain. Her friends and family members loved her through every mountaintop experience and every valley. Through it all, she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God was the Lifter of her head. We remember our Dede, our beautiful gift inside and out, as the one whom we loved unconditionally.

And until then, our hearts will go on singing

Until then with joy we'll carry on

Until the day our eyes behold the city

Until the day God calls us home.

Dede was preceded in death by her father, Lealand, and brothers Gordon and Marvin.
