Mary Ann Novak, age 74, of Chantilly, VA died on March 14, 2009 at INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital. She was born on April 15, 1934 in Dawson, NE to the late Frank and Cora Ellen Bernhardt. Mary Ann graduated as Salutatorian from Dawson High School in 1952. Mary Ann married Charles Novak on June 6, 1952 in Dawson, NE. After living in several places around the country they finally settled in Chantilly, VA in 1970, where Mary Ann lived until her death. Mary Ann worked for Fairfax County's Facilities Management Division for 26 years before she retired in 1998 as Office Service Manager III. Mary Ann kept busy during her retirement years gardening, reading and raising dogs. She also loved old movies, mainly westerns and musicals. Mary Ann and her husband often traveled back "home" to Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado to visit family, friends and attend alumni reunions. They also enjoyed the beaches at Ocean City, MD and Nags Head, NC, often with their daughters and grandchildren. Mary Ann was the beloved wife of Charles E. Novak, loving and devoted mother of Susan Camille Rieder, Judith Marie Soltow and Leigh Anne Stephens, proud grandmother of Thomas Alexander Clark, Elizabeth Anne Novak and Lauren Marie Soltow, sister of Hazel Hanny, Aunt of Frank Hanny, her beloved Bichon dog Louie, who checks under her bedroom door daily, hoping that she will appear. She is deeply missed . A Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 15 th at 10:30am at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA ( www.adamsgreen.com ). Private graveside services will immediately follow at Emmanuel Church Cemetery, Middleburg, VA.
