As a friend and company classmate, Rick was the best. He was kind, considerate, treated everyone with dignity and respect, and was generous with his time and talent - whether it was at the Academy, service to his country after his naval service, in private industry or as a member of his church. Beth (Albright) and I send our sincere condolences to Beth and the rest of his family - and know that in his present journey Rick will be blessed with the mariner's prayer of fair winds and a following sea.

Rick and I worked together at TVA's Browns Ferry and Sequoyah Nuclear Plants from the mid 1970s to the early 1980s. He was by far the "brains" behind whatever we were doing. He could develop a workable plan in no time.
His favorite joke was pulled on lots of people--especially youngsters. He would tell the person that between him (Rick) and his brother Robert, they knew everything there was to know; just ask him something--anything. The person would come up with a question that almost no one would know the answer to and ask Rick. Rick would respond "Oh, Robert knows that, but he's not here, so, ask me another one." The person would not know what to say.
We worked together again for a few years starting in 2005--building windfarms all over the country.
Rick was the ultimate friend. The world and I will surely miss him.

Richard Cooper posted a condolence

I am Dick Cooper, one of Rick’s friends who went to USNA and had many classes with him, including Portuguese. We always called each other, “Asperante,” which is Portuguese for, “midshipman.” I recall during the first days of Youngster Cruise how we were in Norfolk and saw a Portuguese destroyer moored at the next pier over. We decided to ask to come aboard and crafted what we believed was, “Request permission to come aboard, sir” in Portuguese. We said this to the enlisted guy at the quarterdeck, who clearly did not understand us. He got the Officer of the Deck, who spoke English and we went aboard. We ended up with a tour of the ship, visit to the wardroom, and a lunch of ham sandwiches and beer! I have never forgotten that event.
Rick introduced me to the sport of handball at the Academy and we had many spirited and sweat-soaked sessions over the years.
I remember years later that he and I attended an Army-Navy game in the new Philly stadium. I brought my son, John who was a D-1 lacrosse attack man for Saint Joseph’s College in Philly. John had been a star player in high school making first team, all Catholic in his senior year and scored the winning goal in the Catholic League Championship. He had trained with professional lax players between his junior and senior years, and he put on bulk, speed, endurance, and shot accuracy after that. He met Rick’s son, Sam who was also in attendance. We had a great time that day.
I am so sorry to hear of Rick’s passing and really did not know he was dealing with significant dementia. I will always remember Rick fondly and I give you my sincere condolences, Beth and extended family. May God receive Rick in Heaven and bless you all!
Dick Cooper
