Alton C. Tavenner,Jr., of Philomont, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on May 31st,2023 cared for by his devoted wife of 64 years. Alton, fondly know as Curtis, Poodle Doo and Duct by friends and family, was born to Alton and Vernie Tavenner, on June 13th, 1939 in Sterling, Virginia.
Alton lived his entire life in the community of Loudoun County, Virginia.  A community that he endeared, a legacy that he continued, handed down from his father, grandfather and greatgrandfather.  Alton enjoyed the Loudoun outdoors, raising his family and providing a home. He served his county, proud to wear the cloth of the US Army, earning the rank of SSGT, awarded badges in Expert Carbine and Sharpshooter.  He was devoted fan of Sonny Jergenson and Sammy Ball, found often cheering his favorite football team to victory.  His friends often sought him out for his talent in storytelling, his remarkable ability to recall Loudoun history, his prospective on life experiences or simple to call to hear his routine greeting, “One day at a time”.
Alton is survived by his wife Dorothy and two children, Richard, Randall and daughter-in law Diana, as well as his grandchildren, Nikole and Dalton. Alton's family will be celebrating his life at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery on June 12th, 2023 at 1pm.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Blue Ridge Hospice ( https://brhospice.org/donate/ ), a blessing in caregiving in Alton's quality of life and support to his family.
