Obituary of Lois Davis Ankers
Lois D. Ankers - obituary
Lois Edwina Davis was born in Norfolk, VA. Her family moved to Northern VA in her early teens, when her Dad came to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Washington, DC. Fairfax County did not have Middle School at that time, so she was held back to Vienna Elementary School where she met Edward E. (Gene) Ankers. They became high school sweethearts. She attended King’s College in Delaware for 1 year, but her parents asked her to come home and work to help put her older sister, Kathy, through college. She did, working for the Federal Government at Health, Education & Welfare in D.C. She & Gene married, built their own house on Ankerdale Farm, and had 3 children, Janelle Ankers Swensson, Edward E. Ankers Jr., & Barbara Ankers Hannum. In the 1960s they bought a hardware store in Vienna, and during an economic downturn years later, Gene went back to work for the Town of Vienna, and Lois ran the store. When Gene retired from the Town, they sold the store, moved to Tappahannock, VA, and then wintered in Dunedin, FL. After Gene’s death, Lois returned to Vienna. She is survived by her 3 children, 4 grandchildren, Christopher Hatcher Swensson, Edward (Eddie) E. Ankers III, Jennifer Ankers Swensson, Erik Lee Swensson, and 12 great-grandchildren. Lois & Gene, along with her parents, were founding members of Faith Baptist Church in Vienna
