John F. Weseman USCG
December 26,1942-June 19,2023
John Frederick Weseman Captain, U.S. Coast Guard (Retired) of Sterling VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2023, in Sterling VA. He was born on December 26, 1942, in Clarence Center New York the son of Carlton Weseman and Betty Miller. He was the beloved husband of Pervin Weseman for 60 years. John served in the United States Coast Guard from 1960 – 1995. He met his wife Pervin while being deployed overseas in Rhodes, Greece.
After 35 years of service, Captain John retired. In 1994 John and Pervin opened their own Alteration Shop in the Cascades shopping center located in Sterling, VA, and had the business for over 20 years. John was a well-known figure in the shopping center, frequently seen with a pen in hand and the day's crossword puzzle from the Washington Post neatly folded. The store phone was securely fastened to his pocket and a sophisticated cherry wood pipe often rested in the corner of his mouth. He was also great with children, his ability to connect was truly remarkable. He had a way of meeting kids at their level, making them feel seen and valued. Whether it was patiently explaining a concept, listening to a story that seemed to stretch on forever, or simply offering a warm smile, John’s impact extended far beyond his immediate circle. He was a pillar of support, always helping others without expecting anything back in return, a source of inspiration, and a friend to many. While he may no longer be physically present, his legacy lives on not only in the memories we share, but also in the lives he touched, the hearts he uplifted, and the positive change he sparked.
John is survived by his devoted wife Pervin, Sisters Judy Weseman Stahley, Janice Weseman, and their husbands (Erick and Douglas). Getting a Visitors’ Pass
You can sign up electronically for a Visitors’ Pass three or more days before the service --so now – but if you wait until the day of and/or you have issues with the electronic pass, you must go to the Visitors’ Control Center (VCC) at Hatfield Gate. When you are putting in the information on the electronic pass website, you have to pay close attention or your pass request will likely be rejected:
- Check the “I am a US citizen” at the bottom of the first page;
- Do not put any hyphens in your phone number or SSN;
- If there is a pull down menu for a date, use it;
- Use a different email address for each person’s pass;
- Check your spam if you do not receive the pass within 24-72 hours, especially if you use Gmail
There can be a delay at the VCC so getting an electronic pass or going to the VCC before the service is preferable.
Please see https://home.army.mil/jbmhh/index.php/my-fort/all-services/access-gate-info for pass information and https://pass.aie.army.mil/JBMHH/ for signing up electronically.
