Kay was amazing speaker; and instructor. I always looked for her courses in OLLI; these times were always well spent

Kay and I got to know each other when I locked the keys in my car in the parking lot at NVHC and she kindly drove me home and back with a spare set. Over the next dozen years our paths frequently crossed, and we began meeting for coffee and got to know each other as well as our families. Kay was savvy and smart and had a great sense of humor. My daughter Samantha and Kay served together on the NVHC Board of Trustees and that brought us closer. Kay and Marc attended Samantha’s wedding and when it was time for Samantha’s baby shower, Kay offered to help. Kay had a creative side but was surprised when I asked if she would make a diaper cake. Kay had no idea what a diaper cake was, but promised she would figure it out - and she sure did. She made the most stunning diaper cake. Friends like Kay are irreplaceable and I will miss her terribly. My heartfelt condolences to you Marc, Cam and Hannah.

Despite never having met her in person, I loved Kay. I knew Kay through a FaceBook group, and her posts and comments (often wry, always supportive) consistently captured just the right thing to say. She knew when to offer nothing more than a glass raised in solidarity, when to offer spot-on advice, when and how to commiserate. But more than anything, it was her loved for, and great pride in, her children that shined through. I am so grateful to have known her, and know the loss is all the greater for her family and friends because of her exceptional goodness, love, wit, and grace.

Kay’s OLLI classes were a joy to attend. I took several over the years and will truly miss her presence.

Embodying traits that together created a truly extraordinary individual, Kay was an exemplification of magnificent courage, wisdom and unyielding kindness. Her radiant warmth welcomed me like instant family when we first met and it’s her enduring generosity I held dear since then. Strikingly rare is an acquaintance who teaches so much about cherishing life, but that was Kay - unforgettable and dearly missed. May this remarkable woman rest in peace and leave us with precious memories to grow on.

Participating in Kay’s OLLI classes during COVID provided for me the happiest moments of that frightening period. Her breadth of knowledge combined with charming discourse constituted a sorely needed antidote to our collective isolation.
Kay, you touched us all. Will miss you always.
Condolences to you and your family.

In Memoriam Amicus Carissimus
I picked her up in a bar
That’s what we used to joke together
Eating next to each other at the kitchen counter at an expensive restaurant
Dinner and a show!
She complimented my lipstick
I was charmed by her accent
Our ever patient husbands, flanking us while we extroverted together
Falling into easy conversation as old friends do
We unlocked that rarest of achievements for women:
Making friends in middle age
We were out for a treat
She had a broken foot
And her husband didn’t cook
So he took her out to dinner
I wondered at that: casual, impromptu dinner out at a place we had to plan and budget for
Even with her cast and crutches, she perched regally on that high stool, holding court with the staff
Who treated her with deference and respect and
Affection that made me want to know her
She could be described with clichés, I suppose
Generous to a fault
Compassionate and kind
Devastating wit
Savage profanity
Broken and whole
Damaged and resilient
And even the multiplier of these couldn’t equal what she was
A lawyer turned homemaker turned literature professor turned friend
Our little nest growing and absorbing new warriors along the way
She told me more than once
Each time eye to eye
How she found her tribe with me and them
So when we watched
Near and far
As tragedy stole her humour
And then her voice
And then her appetite
Enraging and heartbreaking and aching and helpless
This
This
This
Rage
Grief
Void
I hope you are at peace, my dearest
I hope the pain is gone, my friend
I hope you’re drinking gin and tonics wherever you are and eating Yorkshire puddings
I hope you’re saving me a seat at the bar

I am so sorry to hear of Kay's passing. We were friends through a FB group and, despite never meeting in person, I loved everything about her. Her posts were so lovely, compassionate, unfiltered, and beautifully British. She was feisty, whip-smart, and so supportive. This group is literally the only reason I logged onto FB, and I will miss her voice terribly. I know she loved her family so much as wildly proud of you. I will forever be grateful to have known her in the small way I did and will always remember her Fall of the Patriarchy needlepoint! That's true talent!
