Obituary of William Bernard O'Donnell

William B. O'Donnell, 88, died July 1, 2009 at home in Sterling, VA. He served in Army Air Corps, US Army Air Force and US Air Force from 1939 to November 1972 and retired as a Lt. Colonel. For 25 years in Counter Intelligence Corps and later USAF Office of Special Investigations. Awarded Air Force Commendation Medal with cluster and Meritorious Service Medal with cluster. Native of Philadelphia, PA; BA from upper Iowa University. After military retirement, served as a Senior Personnel Security Specialist in the Office of the Secretary, US Department of the Treasury until March 1992. Awarded National Intelligence Medal of Achievement. Afterwards, a contract employee for the Department of Energy in Personnel Security matters.
Survivors include daughter, Jo Ann L. Potzler (Phillip), and son, William B. Jr. and his wife Anne. His beloved wife, Alice (Penny) M. O'Donnell, preceded him in death in 2002 and his son-in-law, Phillip E. Potzler in 2005. Family will receive friends at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, VA on July 7, 2009 from 5-8 pm. Services will be held with full military honors at Ft. Meyer Chapel at Arlington National Cemetery on September 28, 2009 at 8:45 am. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Sommerset Retirement Community in Memory of William B. O'Donnell, 22355 Providence Village Dr., Sterling, VA 20164.
