Obituary of Michael Peter Stauffer
Michael Stauffer, age 81, originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on August 3, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.
Mike was a resident of Reston, Virginia since 1982. He was a graduate of the Mount Carmel Seminary College where he studied Theology, Logic, and Mathematics. He went on to have an illustrious career as an engineer and he worked with some of the earliest computers. He received many accolades over the years from his jobs at Caterpillar, GE Aerospace, Martin Marietta, and Lockheed Martin. He spent the most time working for Lockheed, where he would neither confirm nor deny having worked on some of their most celebrated, high clearance projects. In his retirement he was a regular volunteer for The Loft thrift store in Herndon which benefits Reston- Herndon FISH, helping families in financial crisis.
Mike is survived by his wife Mary, his son Marc, daughter-in law Beth, daughter Molly, and grandson Tyler. He was married for 54 years and went to the Woodstock festival for his honeymoon.
He enjoyed building computers, car races, flying kites, and time with his family.
He will be greatly missed.
