Of Lansdowne, Virginia, passed on Friday, August 11, 2023 at his home. Born September 16, 1928 in Flinton, Pennsylvania to John and Anna Slovikosky. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Beverly Ann Slovikosky on July 7, 2023, father of Steven (Ilene) Slovikosky and Gary (Sonja) Slovikosky; and grandfather to Shari (Paul) Russenberger, Kathleen (Samuel) Swanson, Michael Slovikosky, David Slovikosky, Sandy Slovikosky, Brian Gold and Michael Gold; and great grandfather to Wyatt Russenberger.
Like many of his brothers, Walter felt the calling to serve his country and joined the U.S. Navy in 1946 and spent his service time in the Asian Pacific Theater experiencing the world while serving aboard the USS Shelton and USS Hollister.
Walter met the love of his life, Beverly in Altoona, Pennsylvania and they moved to Washington, DC to begin their future together. They married in the Lutheran Church in La Plata, Maryland on December 1, 1951 and raised two sons, Steven and Gary. Walter’s rich and loving journey through life with Beverly would last for nearly 72 years.
Walter began his working career as a DC Transit bus driver and held various positions in the DC Metro System before finally ending his working career as an Assistant Treasurer and Supervisor of Revenue Operations.
Walter enjoyed working with little league football and coaching the Meadows Farm women’s softball team, family camping and league bowling in his younger days. Motor sports and auto shows were among his favorite interests. He was an avid golfer and hunter for a large part of his life. Some of his best memories were hunting with his brothers, nephews and friends. He traveled extensively throughout the United States and parts of the world. He enjoyed yard work, home projects, and spending time with family.
Walter helped raise 3 of his grandchildren after the loss of his daughter-in-law Linda Slovikosky. Walter was very involved in the lives of his grandchildren Shari, Kathleen and Michael as they lived down the street from one another. He was known to many of their friends as “everyone’s Pap Pap” due to his kindness and generosity. He made frequent trips to the Altoona area to help family and friends in need.
Loving Husband and Father, forever missed, forever loved.
