Obituary of Geraldine A. Willmot
Geraldine A. Willmot
January 19, 1940 – August 17, 2023
Dearest Family and Friends,
With an extraordinarily heavy heart, if you have not yet heard, our mom passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023 -- the day before we were set to transport her back to Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA for the inurnment of her son, Jeffrey Scott (d. Dec 19, 2019) and her husband, Kenneth James (d. May 12, 2023).
Originally, we had a double memorial service planned for Saturday, August 19th but had to change that to a triple memorial service on Saturday, August 26th at the same cemetery, at the same time, with all the same logistics in The Burgh. Surreal to say the least, but as a lifetime RN and Nursing Home Administrator our mom was incredibly adept and very used to caring for others. She did that for many years for our brother Jeff (who lived with them struggling w/ heart valve issues, diabetes, and other complications) and our dad whose health was just on the gradual decline of aging. In the end, once Jeff and Ken were not around, and especially after our dad departed in May, I think our mom just wanted to be with them and make sure they were okay. Her body carried her soul as far as it could in this life but finally gave out/in to all the various ailments and complexities of the medical conditions that plagued her. She is at rest now. They are all at rest.
We were told on the Thursday morning of her death, by Capt. Artisst from the Loudoun County EMT unit, that it was likely quick, sudden, and massive (probably acute pulmonary edema) somewhere around 7am which was about 1 hour after the floor nurse checked on mom and all was well at 6am. From what we can tell, she did not suffer or have pain. In fact, the last thing my sister and I said to her in a conference call Wednesday night in preparation for the packing day (TH), transport day (FRI), and memorial service (SAT) was, "Ma, we've got all the logistics sorted out and taken care of. We're taking this one day at a time, one step at a time. You just make sure you get a good night's rest." To which she replied, "OK then. I will do that. Love you both".
On Saturday, August 26th, the Willmot and DeArdo clans arrived for the memorial service which was presided over by Father Mark Hughes (Cheryl’s husband’s brother) where we had the long-overdue, Covid-delayed inurnment of our brother, father, and mother.
The final resting place for Kenneth, Geraldine, and Jeffrey Willmot is in the Gethsemanne Chapel at Resurrection Cemetery, 100 Resurrection Road, Coraopolis, PA 15108
