Wow !wow !wow! Our larger than life Aunty Nan ! My second Mum! What a woman ! Simply phenomenal! A life well lived !
My earliest memory of Aunty Nancy, is of you and my mum busy planning your son Van Pees wedding in the early 70s of which I was one of the flower girls along with your daughter Naamie and a few others and I must have been 6 or 7 yrs, same age as Naamie. My sister Aforo was also a bridesmaid and although my memory of that day is not so clear I still know it was a memorable and great time and day we had! My mum and you have been sisters and best friends forever practically joined at the hip and so was your daughter Naamie and I and also your late son Van Pee and I had a special bond so did Owura Charles and I.
I have so so many wonderful memories....of sleepovers with Naamie most weekends at your house in Airport residential area and your late husband Uncle Charlie and Naamie would always pick me up from my home to yours, and I can still recall him listening to his special radio stations in the car some in French and other news, .Such a gentleman he was! Aunty your resilient character certainly rubbed off on Naamie and I and we learned so much from you and at an early age we were so responsible and organised even helping with preparing dinners ,even fufu and soup. I learned from you first to keep bread in the freezer to keep it fresher for longer ! I remember breakfast at table and eating Oblayo yummy ! You were always busy ,and a very well accomplished lady, very witty ,smart, intelligent , nurturing ,very spiritual, grounded, and practical person .Ive always looked up to you and have a lot of love ,respect ,and admiration for you .Most of all you loved your family very much and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity over the last few years to have spent some quality time with you talking and laughing and catching up! You are a rare gem Aunty Nan, truly truly special and unique and you will be forever in our hearts and truly missed! Rest in Perfect Eternal Peace my dear Aunty Nan, rest with the holy angels and saints, and in the Bosom of our maker and Good Lord Amen .

Every summer I spent at yours is still a very fond memory of mine. Your strength of character, grace and love shall never be forgotten. I remember all the good times with you, feeding us and filling us with your wisdom and words of guidance. I even brought my first born Joel to spend his first summer in America with you before he was one and you showed him that endless, sweet, love. I will treasure all our FaceTimes with me you and Nan and we shall miss you endlessly!

Fare thee well auntie Nancy.... The hymn we sang together beside your brother AJ Anie still resonates. Will live with that memory till we meet again. Indeed we have an anchor that keeps the soul. CHRIST!
"Will your eyes behold through the morning light
the city of gold and the harbour bright?
Will you anchor safe by the heavenly shore,
when life's storms are past for evermore"

The year was 1998 and I had first arrived in the USA as a college student. I knew I had family here but hadn’t met them yet.
My dad gave me Auntie Nancy’s phone number and that first phone call was the beginning of the most wonderful relationship one can have.
Auntie Nancy showed me so much love and care. I would call her and our conversations would span just about any topic. We shared a lot of laughter, and her sense of humor was unmatched. I’d tell her how pretty she is and she’d say “you should have seen me when I was younger”.
Auntie Nancy was there for me in some of the toughest moments of my life. She gave me good counsel and encouraged me. I was always welcome in her home and everything seemed like a non-issue once I spoke to Auntie Nancy.
I could go on and on because Auntie Nancy was such a wonderful person. As it’s written in Job 1:21, The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.
Auntie Nancy has left an imprint on my heart that will never be forgotten. Rest well, my dearest Auntie until we meet again.

I still remember the first time I saw this Aunt of mine, Aunty Nancy. It was in London, in the early 1960s, and she was beautifully dressed in a light blue velvet kaba and slit at a function my father had allowed me to attend with him. I must have been about 12 years old and in my eyes she was the most beautiful and fashionable Ghanaian lady I’d ever seen. My father introduced her as his cousin Nancy and she flashed me one of her hallmark smiles and enfolded me warmly in her arms. Over the many years after that, I saw her at so many family events especially in Ghana, always beautiful and smiling. The last time was at my 68th birthday party in 2017 and my daughter was blown away by this glamorous elderly lady, with pink eye shadow and red lipstick and nails. She wondered why I had kept such a delightful Granny from her. She’s never forgotten her.
Thank you Aunty for all those great times and the delight of basking in your smiles. Thanks be to God for blessing you with a long life and loving family..
Rest in Peace Aunty Nancy. To God be the Glory for a life well lived.
