Obituary of Audrey Cox Hodge

Audrey C. Hodge, 92, passed away on September 4, 2023 in Reston, Virginia.

Audrey was born in Worthing, England to Albert Edward Cox and Margaret Greenwell Cox on January 18, 1931.

She went to Worthing High School and later worked at Lloyds Bank and then became a State Registered Nurse at Southlands Hospital. She met her husband, John, at a nurse’s dance when he was an Auxiliary Air Force Pilot at Shoreham Airport, where he arrived wearing a white silk scarf and riding a motorcycle. They married April 5, 1952 at The Parish Church, Broadwater, County of Sussex. They eventually emigrated to Texas for John’s work and became Naturalized United States citizens. She self-studied and passed the Registered Nurse Exam in the US in 1985 and worked as a Registered Nurse at Powhatan Nursing Home in Falls Church, VA. She later advanced to Nursing Supervisor at Goodwin House also in Falls Church, until retirement.

She is survived by her children Robert Hodge (Martha), JaniceSchrager (Erik), Nicola Parker (Jeff) and Jonathan Hodge (Laurie);sisters Vivien Adams, Sheila Found, and Brenda Vermeltfoort;grandchildren Jenny, Laura, and Kara, Jake, Emma and John, and many nieces and nephews around the globe.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 yrs John, sister Rosemary Coillot and brothers Roland, Gordon, and Arthur Cox. Audrey enjoyed attending and giving her time to St. Francis Episcopal Church in Great Falls, VA, spending time with family and friends, decorating, quilting, embroidery, and reading.

Audrey was the epitome of all things ladylike which was demonstrated in her lifestyle: Kindness, loving nature, patience, tact, decency, honesty, humility, modesty, dedication, industry, wisdom, respect, beauty, courage, eloquence, self-respect, politeness, manners, and humor!
