Jim totally surprised me with his collection of railroad memorabilia. Jim was a good friend of Dot and I and especially a great husband to Margo.
All our love Dot and Tom Wallace

Jim Sterling was a delightful man. He never had a negative word to say about anyone. His humor did not diminish with age. He was very knowledgeable. You could talk to him about anything and come away from the conversation smarter. We will miss him.

One of my favorite memories of Uncle Jim was a time in my twenties when I visited VA. He took me to the FBI Academy for a tour. He was always proud of me and supportive for beginning my career in the police department after high school as a police dispatcher. He even introduced me to running.
One thing I never told him about was the time he let me drive the car which was a stick shift. I had recently learned to drive stick shift and did quite well, but got stopped at a red light in Alexandria on a hill. It took me 5 light changes to get that car moving forward on that hill. I will never forget Uncle Jim and he will always be in my heart.

James came into my life when I was 16 years old and he began to date my older sister Margo. As a teen I was initially wary but later on I recognized his honest respect for me as a young person. Over the past 60+ years I both valued his friendship and came to love his presence and support in my world. Prior to the pandemic I managed to get to his August Birthday parties whenever I could. Jim easily entered our Greek family and culture, especially the food… We could talk about libraries and body armor and railroads. I love Jim. I miss Jim. And I wish his family well as they navigate the world without him in the background.
