I knew Anna only briefly through my daughter, Amanda, through Oakcrest drama productions. She was always such a positive personality who found the good in everything and everyone. She rests with her Heavenly Father.

Ana was one of the best friends I’ll ever have. I remember she came to visit me on the weekend of Palm Sunday during 2022. We went to mass at St. Xavier’s and she wore this beautiful white dress. She looked like an Angel. We were chosen to bring up the offerings for that mass and it was just such a special visit. I’ll miss her forever.

To Ana,
Who knew that a random lab group pairing at Imperial College London would have led to life long friends. It has always felt like it has been you, me, Mark, and Jessi against the world (or rather getting our chemical engineering degrees). There are so many things I need to thank you for, but I will just name a few. Thank you for your enduring friendship and for being there for me for the highs and lows. You so frequently came to me in times of need, for which I am forever thankful. Through you, I have learned what unconditional friendship and love means. You were always selfless and thought of others. Thank you for always sharing your knowledge, you helped me and countless others academically whether it be with homework or simply having a philosophical discussion. Thank you for the countless tea parties, late nights, time exploring South Bend, and the time you spent cooking for us. My time at Notre Dame would not be the same without you. In fact, even after Notre Dame, my time in grad school would not be the same as you continued to look out for me and as we visited one another. Our friendship is special, and I cherish it always.
When I think of you Ana, here are a few things I think about (in no particular order):
Bastille at the Citadel Festival, cardamom buns, mason jars, knitting, ice skating, Russian Caravan tea, walks around Notre Dame, homework in Nieuwland Hall, and Huntington Gardens.
To Mr. and Mrs. Diederich,
Thank you for raising such a beautiful amazing daughter. You did so incredibly well, what a blessing Ana is. You are in my prayers.

During our daughter’s time at Notre Dame, we would visit the campus many times each year. On numerous times during those visits we would meet Ana (as we knew her name to be). She was a delight and a great person with whom to have conversations. But most of all she was an absolute friend to our daughter, Nicole Rose. We were blest to know her as we always thought she was special but continue to learn how exceptional she truly was.

Hello, I was at the gym on the machine next to Anna when it happened. I wish comfort to her family and indeed was surprised and so saddened to hear the next day when I inquired. Had I known her name before today I would have attended the funeral mass. May God have mercy for all of us and prayers for her family. She was not alone and while many were with her, after alerting the rec employees and waiting while they called 911 i was at the street to greet the emergency services when they arrived to help them get to her asap. I'm sure i saw her there at that gym many times as I go daily. She will remain in my memory. She has been on my mind and in my heart ever since. I too have a son at UVa and I wish the parents and family much comfort and grace. Anne F.

Ana was a very special person. She always had so much love to give and words to say. Ana has had a major impact during my time at Notre Dame and a lasting impact on my life. I was lucky enough to be able to cook and share many meals with her. I will greatly miss her.

Anna Theresa,
From the moment I met you to the day God called you, I know you were special in my life. Meeting you in the metro and spending that day together with Inés was something I’ll never forget. Before I left that morning, I grabbed an extra unopened tiny Saint keychain I was meaning to give to someone. It just so happen that Saint was your patron Saint and you were there to receive St. Thérèse of Lisieux. I remember you grabbed it and stuffed in your backpack so quickly with excitement. Fast forward months later, I was just talking about you on Sunday during a brunch, the day before the Lord called you. My heart sank when I heard the news because I thought of calling you this past week. While my heart aches for you to still be here with us, it brings me comfort that you are with our Lord. Please pray for us.
Love,
Luis Carlos Arias

In these unforgettable moments of life, I know that there are no words that can give true comfort to a mother, father or siblings who mourns the departure of a loved one, but nevertheless I want to offer you my deepest condolences, as well as tell you that it was a great pleasure to have met your daughter Anna and to have worked with her it is great how such a young woman has been able to make a great impact on those around her throughout her life, her charisma and example in addition to her wisdom despite her young age, she will always be remembered by many, above all the mark Anna left in the hearts of those who knew her more deeply will be indelible.
Nothing and no one prepares us to say goodbye to the ones we love, but our Lord Jesus taught us that there is something more than death, that in reality they do not leave, they simply go to a place with the Father where we must find them at the moment of our departure, my deep admiration and respect for the memory of your daughter Anna, it is nice to know that we had the opportunity to meet a wonderful human being, someone who taught us that we should not wait so long to show love to our neighbor, someone who taught that Loving God and trying to live a life of Holiness through service to others is something that can be done, pursue our dreams no matter what, and above all, love life at every moment.
Anna was a wonderful woman who will always be remembered by many.

We are sending our love and prayers to the entire family.
It was always such a joy to see Anna's resourcefulness growing up. She helped us out as a mother’s helper and then babysitter as she earned money for camps, cooking competitions, and other amazing endeavors. She never let anything hold her back.
My favorite memory of Anna was our first Halloween in the neighborhood. She was about 8 years old. She came to our house trick-or-treating with a friend. As she ran to the next house, she yelled back “Happy All Saints Eve.” I could hear her friend ask her why she said that. Anna’s response was “I’m not ashamed of my faith.” I remember being in awe that a little girl could be so fun-loving, confident, and full of faith. She knew exactly who she was and that is a remarkable trait to have. She was a joy.
We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know Anna while she was growing up. She was a truly extraordinary girl. May you be comforted knowing her faith has reunited her with our Heavenly Father.
All our love and prayers,
Stephanie, Harold, Matthew, Aaron, and Claire Smarr

Ana was a joy to have as a student. Smart, dedicated, and caring. She (with her friends Nicole Rose and Jessi) were regular visitors to "Physical Chemistry for Chemical Engineers" office hours, asking insightful questions and pushing me to explain difficult concepts. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to teach her and deep remorse for her untimely passing.

What a beautiful young lady, a true follower of the Lord. We are so blessed to have had you in our lives with your many gifts and witnessing charity.
We could not have asked for a better friend for our daughters Victoria and Valeria. Anna was always striving for holiness and inspiring others to do the same. Holy friends are so important in our lives.
Anna, I was always impressed with your gift of hospitality a true evangelist in the beautiful picnics and events you organized. We are so happy you can be with the one who made you and were so close with but we will miss you. Save us a spot at the great banquet!
Keep interceding for us all.
We love you!
