Obituary of Jennifer Minh Ky

Please share a memory of Jennifer to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jennifer Minh Ky died unexpectedly on October 26, 2023 at her residence in Ashburn, VA. She was only 85 years old. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by her sudden death. Jennifer was born on March 12, 1938 in the province of Fujian China. She was the second of six children by her parents Long Ky (father) and Tu Khanh Lam (mother).

She was a private and quiet person, but also very witty and had the biggest heart. She was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate. She was strong-willed and stubborn, and those traits defined her. They were part of who she was, and her strength undoubtedly helped her deal with life’s challenges. Jennifer was never afraid to take on new opportunities and did everything with honesty and integrity. She owned several successful businesses through hard work, dedication and perseverance.

Jennifer was a world traveler.  Her greatest joy from traveling were memories created with her family and friends. Her trips took her to Mt. Rushmore, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park and various states all over the U.S. She thoroughly enjoyed overseas trips to Canada, Asia, France, Egypt, Russia and Australia. Jennifer was welcoming to everyone she met and always took the opportunity for friendly conversations during travel with people she met who then became her best friends.

When she wasn’t traveling, her pastimes included cooking, sewing and growing orchids. Her Chinese meatballs were loved by all and a family favorite during Chinese New Year. Her sewing brought her immense joy when creating beautiful christening gowns, ice skating competition outfits and wedding dresses for her clients. Her beautiful orchids that she treasured came from the award-winning orchids competition.

Jennifer found peace and solace when traveling to the Himalayas Takila guru Lhakang Buddhist Monastery, the First Buddhist Monastery, and she fell in love with their teaching. Since her trip to Takila guru Lhakang, she developed a deep bond and friendship with monks at the Monastery.

Jennifer is survived by her four daughters: Stefanie, Marisa, Rose and Dee Dee, four grandchildren: Harrison, Ethan, Pierce and Jonathan, her closest siblings: Gevanie, Tzee Seng and Nee-Wah and Duc, father of the children.
