Stephen Dennis Sinclair

10.23.51 - 11.07.23

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen "Steve" Dennis Sinclair, a cherished husband, father, pop-pop, brother, uncle, and friend who brought joy to the lives of many. Steve loved life and always had a story to tell. If he was having a bad day, you would never know it.

Born on October 23, 1951, Steve found his faith roots in Catholicism at Blessed Sacrament School before attending St. John's College High School in Washington, DC. A true Clemson enthusiast, Steve exuded passion for his beloved university, from which he graduated with an MA in 1977. Engaging in spirited conversations, cheering on the Tigers, and wearing orange with pride, he embodied the Clemson spirit and formed lifelong connections with his brothers of Theta Chi fraternity. It was during his time at Clemson that he met Jean, his wife of 43 years.

Steve retired from the Fairfax County government as the Chief of the Public Utilities Branch. He excelled in his position and in 2012 he was the proud recipient of The Onthank Award, the highest honor that the Fairfax County government bestows on its employees.

Steve spent countless hours on the golf course, honing his skills and enjoying the company of others. He loved baseball, which led him to many Washington Nationals games and trips to spring training with his friends. Fly fishing also held a special place in Steve's heart. Whether casting a line into calm waters or sharing stories of the ones that got away, Steve found solace in the tranquility and beauty of the great outdoors, especially in Maine.

Steve possessed a genuine ability to make others feel valued, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. As we bid farewell to this remarkable individual, let us remember him with fondness, and keep the spirit of his passion for life alive in our own lives.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Mae, and brothers Ron and Jack. He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Joey (Kate) and Ricky; granddaughter, Sadie; and sister, Judy (Ann Therese CSC).

May he rest in eternal peace, forever swinging, casting, and cheering on the Tigers.

Please join us celebrating his life Friday, November 17, 2023, 11 am, at Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 5949 Western Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20015.  Interment will be private.
