I am sharing this post for my mother-in-law and father-in-law, Vijaya and Chandra Kakarala. They wanted to share their feelings and some memories which offer a sweet glimpse into the life of Ramesh as a little boy.
-----------------------
The unexpected, sudden demise of our son Ramesh was a great shock beyond imagination. He is not here anymore. He lives only in our memories. While the sadness is lingering in our hearts, the postings on the tribute wall by Norton Panthers, Freddie Mac colleagues, relatives, friends and acquaintances give us comfort. We also would like to share the childhood memories of our dear son with you. He was an easy child to take care of and he had a very happy childhood. We went to India right after he was four years old in May of 1972and stayed there for a little over a year. The surroundings were so very different. Ramesh was very curious to dig into new experiences. He wondered why there were so many beggars and why so many people didn’t have proper housing. He acted like a beggar and tried sleeping in a hut with our household helper’s kids in their hut. He wanted to share meals in our house with those children and was very happy when he did. His paternal grandfather had a car which was rare in India at that time. Ramesh used to go with him to more places than the rest of us. His grandfather was thinking of selling the car after we left India to come back to the USA. Ramesh told his grandfather with all his love and care that it would be difficult for him to travel without the car and requested him not to sell it. His grandfather was so happy and kept the car. We came back to the USA in August of 1973. He had totally forgotten his English during his time in India. When he started kindergarten, he saw the concerned look on his dad’s face. Ramesh assured his dad “Don’t worry Dad. I will learn English soon”. Of course, he stated this in Telugu, which is our language in Andhra Pradesh India. Ramesh was always observant about things he was interested in. He was caring and wanted to do things that are meaningful. We believe God has a purpose with each of his children, though we don’t know what that is. Our duty is to move on, believing in God and doing the best we can. We will do that while cherishing the memories of Ramesh. We miss you dear son. WE ARE SURROUNDED BY YOUR SMILE ANDLAUGHTER.

I knew Ramesh when he was a little boy. His Mom Vijaya Didi and I were in graduate school together at Akron U. When I think of Ramesh, I see a smiling face, curious mind and sweet kid. Didi would have is for meals and holidays. One of funny story I would like to share when his Mom decided to make traditional Thanksgiving Dinner but chose to make turkey breast instead of whole turkey. When Ramesh saw the turkey, he said”Mom I have never seen a flat turkey before”. Didi said the look on his face was priceless.
They had also visited us in DE and we all went to beach. His younger brother Raghu got some water from ocean in his mouth and asked if we could go to beach where water was not salty. Off course big brother Ramesh had to explain that ocean water is salty on every beach & why. He was a remarkable kid and great young man. My sincere condolences to the family.

I have been deeply impacted by Ramesh's death, even though I did not personally know him. I feel for his parents who have lost a son, to his wife who is now widowed and a single parent and of course to his children who live now with only memories of their father. For each of you, my heart breaks. Death is always tragic but somehow this feels more so. To his family, I wish you strength as you grieve, and I hope you will celebrate his life and know that he will find joy knowing that you each continue to thrive in your own lives - always remembering him. Honor him by living your best lives.

I have been touched by and will always remember the love Ramesh had for Donna, Abi, and Grey. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family. For years, I dropped Haven off at the Kakarala’s house to play. I always intended on doing a quick drop-off, but never left before a couple hours, visiting with Donna and enjoying the happy atmosphere of their home. And inevitably, Ramesh would come home from work, and I’d be parked in the middle of the driveway, preventing Ramesh from parking in the garage or even in his own driveway. He never got frustrated or impatient, he always said, “It’s ok, I just parked on the street.” He never wondered aloud why I hadn’t parked on the street myself. Then, I’d continue to visit with Donna, and Haven and Abi would hide, thinking the playdate would go on forever if I couldn’t find my daughter. They frequently hid in Ramesh’s home office. Ramesh was a man of patience and dedication. He was an inspiration, and he will be missed. We mourn with Donna, Abi, and Grey, and send our love and prayers.

I taught Grey in school two years ago, and I now teach Abi. They are both so amazingly kind, humble and perfect in every aspect of life. They exhibit tremendous values and I know all their teachers they have had are tremendously proud of all their excellence in the classroom and their exemplary character as well. I know Mr. Ramesh Kakarala had a tremendously great influence on how perfect Abi and Grey have become and Mr. Ramesh's amazing influence will continue to reverberate through the generations as Abi and Grey grow up and have families of their own and instill in future generations all the tremendous character they learned from their father. Abi and Grey, I am so very deeply sorry and I will always be here for you and will always care for both of you and your amazing family.

He was a real inspiration to many, a great example of collegiality, hard work, and sheer brainpower. So many are heartbroken over this loss, but I am sure none so much as his family. Ramesh was the first person that I met at Darden Business School on orientation day in August 1993. When I reminded him of this fact 27 years later he replied, in typical Ramesh fashion: "I consider myself lucky to be the first person that you ran into." That's the kind of person that he was and is why we quickly became lifelong friends, there for each others' weddings and hanging out as our families grew.
My wife Miev's USAF career has kept the Carharts and Kakaralas physically separated for the past 25 years, so we weren't as big part of each others' lives as I wished.
In the first September 2006 photo Ramesh is holding newborn Grey and Donna is seated alongside my Marshall. The two boys were born 2 months apart.
The second photo is of Ramesh, myself and John Yeager hanging out at Ramesh's house in April 2008. Our initial common bond was the Darden years 1993-1995 and then supporting each other over the next 28 years.
The last two photos are at the Goochland drive-in theater in August 2015 during a family date. Not long afterwards we moved to Minot AFB in North Dakota.

Ramesh was an original member of our tight little group of friends during our years at Delaware. He had a unique personality, and helped create and share some of our funnest and light-hearted times. In this photo, you can see Ramesh toasting at one of our famous dorm parties. What is not as noticeable is ,that in this photo Ramesh had no eye browes. He had shaved them for fraternity rush. He never joined that fraternity, but instead stayed in OUR fraternity. But that was Ramesh....always willing try something new. Mesh, you were one of our brothers, and very much loved, and now missed.
