Obituary of Margaret Melvina Wilson
Margaret Melvina Wilson, age 93, of Herndon, Virginia passed away peacefully at her home on November 27, 2023. She was born on February 5, 1930 in Johnston County, North Carolina to Owen and Sallie (Whitley) Cooley. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, caring neighbor and friend; the best pineapple coconut cake maker and banana pudding maker. Margaret loved arts and crafts and was passionate about her recipes! She loved fashion, family and her many friends! Everyone affectionately called her “Grandma”.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Clara Passmore of Manassas, Virginia, her sons Calvin Wilson and daughter-in-law Cheryl Homer-Wilson of Herndon, Virginia and Raymond Wilson of Bronxville, New York. Her sisters Reverend Sarah Smith, Reverend Bernice Powell and brother-in-law Willie Powell, Rachel Parks and brother-in-law Eddie Parks. Her brothers Howard Cooley and Ernest Cooley all of North Carolina. In addition to a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Margaret attended North Carolina Public Schools. She moved to New York City in 1951 and worked in a variety positions including Administrative Assistant with the National Association of Minority Contractors. In 1996, she moved to Herndon, Virginia where she was very active in the Herndon Senior Community Center and the Herndon Adult Day Care Center before attending Insight Memory Care Center.
A funeral is scheduled for 11AM on Monday, December 4 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Herndon, Virginia. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Margaret’s life.
Margaret will be interred at her family gravesite in Clayton, North Carolina on Saturday, December 9.
