I’m a former next door neighbor of Violet and Tom for 8.5 years, moving in after Mike and Ginger moved out. Most of my time with Violet was unplanned events where we were stopping to chat over the backyard fence or being invited over to join in late afternoon comradery on the front porch. Violet was so warm and welcoming and generous.
During one of our first encounters in the backyard, Violet bragged about her retirement clock to me, and going forward would give me updates on the days to retirement. The first progress report was something like 532 days to go! That made me laugh. After the clock got to zero, I asked her what she was tracking now, and Violet said she had a new clock. It was a gift and it only tracked what day of the week it was. She thought it was just a fun gift at first, but then realized it was quite useful!
The first time I met Violet and Tom and many of the neighbors was Halloween night. It was dark and I came home from work, and I thought there was a fire blazing in my front yard. Nope, it was a gathering at Tom and Violet’s. As soon as I got out of my truck, the Badders invited me over and welcomed me to “The Court.” Violet offered me the spare key to my house back, and I refused, knowing I would need their help someday. I could feel their warm heartedness from the beginning.
As my family grew, Violet shared her good nature with us. When the family was sick, she would stop by with homemade soup or something from the crock-pot. Violet’s garden, even in her worst growing years, always out topped mine, and she always shared her bounty. I impressed her and made her laugh the first time I ate one of her fresh tomatoes, just like an apple. When my kids were born, Violet made each of them blankets. To this day, my kids, who have 4 or 5 blankets piled on them when I tuck them in at night, usually ask to have Violet’s handmade blanket layered first closest to them.
The Court did also manage to have planned gatherings and excuses to celebrate. Halloweens, crab leg dinners, 4th of July’s, birthdays, Christmas time brunches… Violet, thanks for bringing the Champagne, sharing the bourbon balls, thanks for giving the advice, thanks for the laughter, thanks for the talks. We will miss you dearly. I am so glad we could be your neighbors and more.

Violet was an extremely kind and generous lady. She came to my house and planted a vegetable garden for me. She brought everything with her except the soil. No one but Violet would do something like that. Rest in paradise beautiful lady! You will be missed.

I worked with Violet at Horizon Elementary for many years. I can't begin to tell of all the times she helped me as the cafeteria manager. She always remembered us in the kitchen. I loved chatting whenever I went up to the office. I loved her biscuits and gravy. Hugs and prayers to her family

There are so many stories I could tell about Violet. Violet was one of my best friends. I always knew it. But she wasn’t just my best friend, I can think of many people who felt about her the same way. She had a special way of sharing her love. Tom and Violet are the reason the word,”framily” exists. From the baseball & softball fields to the beaches, working in school together, bourbon ball making, Christmas, Fourth of July we did things a family does. Violet was one of my kids other mothers and I will love her forever for all that and more.

The word "Family" meant everything to this amazing woman. We had the privilege of spending time with the Badders family over many years as our families grew and our children became the best of friends and remain so into adulthood. Several memories come to mind, especially on the softball fields watching our girls Amanda and Jeanine shine and the two dads Tom and Tom coaching them with Violet and I in the stands cheering. Another fun memory is of Violet and I chaperoning the Park View H.S. marching band of which Sean, Brandon and Jeanine were part of, on many trips to Disney and Williamsburg where they competed. I remember with fondness and laughter the two of us walking the hotel halls all night on those trips (the kids were on lockdown by the band director in their rooms) talking about life and our kids and laughing because we told the kids they could stay up all night if they wanted to (which was against the rules). Violet will be greatly missed but remembered in our hearts forever.
With Love, Donna, Tom and Jeanine Gargiulo

Over 35 years ago God lead us to our first true home; nextdoor to the most amazing neighbors and friends anyone could have, Violet & Tom. Violet was the most genuine, sincere and giving person we have ever known. We will miss her so very much. There’s a hole in our hearts that will never be filled by anyone else. Thanks for all the memories. We love & miss you. Mike and Ginger

Absolute fun making Bourbon balls, Halloween gatherings, dinner and outings. Her 70th was terrific party and she was in heaven holding her sweet granddaughter.
Violet’s Wilma/Betty laugh. Sitting with her and talking. Learning how she and Tom met. She was always a sweet person no matter how much pain she was in. Definitely an angel now.

Violet had a wonderful sense of humor. Very easy to talk with .... you could pick up a conversation you had with her two months prior. We enjoyed parties hosted in the backyard and have many good memories of the kids growing up together. We share in your loss.

Violet and Tom were our neighbors for 4 years when we first moved to Forest Ridge. But those were those crazy years when we both had 3 young children on a cul de sac. She was very kind, relaxed and fun to be around. I have a very clear memory of their chocolate lab going into labor and I got to sit on the floor with her as the puppies were born and she even let the kids come and take a look. It was so cool. When I was massively pregnant with my 3rd I was stressed about having to go to a fancy Christmas party. She assured me she had the perfect dress and brought it over. It really was perfect. Our whole family is very sad about this and that shows you her impact on people even though over 30 years has passed.

Mrs. Badders was my bonus mom, and to say knowing her was a bonus is the understatement of the century. She was absolutely hilarious and sweet, and I loved her hugs. Seeing her be a best friend to my mom was more special than I ever realized. I am so grateful for the lifetime of memories I am privileged to have with her and all the Badders family, who are an extension of my own. I love you all and I am so sorry for your loss. Mama Badders was a light and the world will shine a little less bright without her in it.
Love, Meghan Hutton

I will always remember Violet’s infectious laugh. It was refreshing and you had to laugh when she did. The first time I met her we were preparing for Dave’s brother’s wedding. We were making the cake. We let it cool outside on the picnic table and the dog ate it!!!! We didn’t panic we just laughed hysterically and started over again. It was a great day. I will always remember her laugh and miss it and her. Condolences to Tom and kids. Alyce Amussen
