Bethany Morris posted a condolence

In the seven years that I studied with Dr. Perkins, I was transformed from a mediocre violin student to a passionate violinist ready to study music in college. As a teacher, she improved my violin technique tenfold. As a mentor, she guided me from my first violin purchase to my last college audition. I can only hope that, as my future in music education, that I can inspire my students as she did.

Dear Graham, Christian, and David: I am so sorry to hear of Marianne's death. I still remember the very first time I spoke with her and knew that my girls were going to be lucky to have her as their teacher. Little did I know that I would also gain a friend. I am so glad that Bethany, Katherine, and I were able to see her last summer when we were back in Virginia. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Marianne was much loved amd will be greatly missed. With all my sympathy, Clare

I began violin lessons with Dr. Perkins only two years ago, but she taught me so much. She was my second violin teacher, and if not for her, I would have quit playing by now. But because of her guidance, her passion for music rubbed off on me, and I will continue playing with her always in my mind. She inspired me and showed me music in a new light. She will be missed, but will always be in her students' hearts.

My daughter Connie and Clarissa have been studying violin with Dr. Perkins for 4 and 1 year correspondingly. They had dramastic improvement once they started with Dr. Perkins. I adored her for the way she inspired and interacted with her students, transforming kids from loving pop music to classic music. I love the recitals at her music room, listening to the beautiful music played by the young talent students. She will always be missed and loved by my two daughters and me. We wish her family well.

I had the honor of meeting Marianne only briefly last year when the ASTA meeting visited Midlothian(Richmond)Virginia. In one short meeting I was impressed with Marianne's sharing personality as she unveiled what was to become her award-winning ASTA state website. We have lost another very special human being and colleague! My condolences to her family and her larger "family" of musicians.
