Obituary of Leavitt Albert Peterson

Leavitt A. "Lev" Peterson, age 79
of Ashburn, VA died Monday, August 2, 2010 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Jean E. Peterson (nee Gregorius); daughters, Kimberly (Jimmy) Kennedy, Lyndee (Tom) Bonner and Connie (Robb) Williams; sons Jay (Jessica) Peterson and Jon (Tracy) Peterson. Other survivors include his brothers, Ronnie (Ione) Peterson and Jim (Donna) Peterson; sister, Marcella (Ivar) Johnson; and grandchildren, Justin, Megan, Kyle, Matthew, Nicolle, Ian, Morgan, Kellyn, Hayley, Chase, Macy, Courtney, Ryan, and Josie. He received his BS in Engineering from the University of Illinois and his MS in Research and Development from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). During his 44 year career, he worked in the Railroad Industry in upper management. He ended his career as Assistant VP for Association of American Railroads. He served two years in the army at the end of the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman and especially loved vacationing in Ely, Minnesota. He loved music and played the piano and trombone. Family will receive friends Thursday, August 5, 2010 from 6-9 p.m. at Galilee United Methodist Church, 45425 Winding Road, Sterling, VA. Funeral services will be Friday, August 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Galilee United Methodist Church with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Herndon, VA. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Mr. Peterson's name to Capitol Hospice, Galilee United Methodist Church, or Alzheimer's Foundation at the National Institute on Aging.
