Obituary of Hazle Hart Rankin

HAZLE HART RANKIN (Age 92) On Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Sunrise Senior Living in Reston, Va. Mrs. Rankin was born December 1, 1918, in Terrell, Tex., the daughter of William Kelsey Hart and Annie Pratt Maginnis. In addition to her husband of 44 years, the late Ardery Robert Rankin, and her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Lorraine Hart Hendrix, Jack Hart Warren, and Nane Hart Rogers and brother Kelsey Taylor Hart. She is survived by two daughters, Ann Kathie Rankin of Reston, Va., and Nancy Ardery Rankin-Tice (Dennis) of Easton, Pa.; granddaughter Katherine Kelsey Carlson (Christopher) of Winchester, Va.; great grandson Tristan Edward Carlson, also of Winchester; niece Patricia Hart Paradies of Santa Fe, N. Mex.; nephew Rodney O. Rogers (Shirley) of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and great nieces Brooke Rogers Brooks (Anthony) of Savannah, Ga., and Tyler Rogers Corson (Caleb) of Arlington, Va.
Mrs. Rankin graduated from Terrell High School and was employed by Atlas Metal Works in Dallas before moving to the Washington area in 1947. A 50-year resident of McLean, Va., she served as Registrar of the Fairfax County YWCA from 1962 until her retirement in 1982. She was active in Girl Scouts, the St. Michael's Episcopal Church Junior Choir, and the Hilltop Squares square dance club. She was an accomplished seamstress, a devoted Anglophile, a world traveler, and a theater buff.
Services will be held at ADAMS-GREEN Funeral Home 721 Elden St. Herndon, VA at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 16. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mrs. Rankin's memory to the Washington National Cathedral Development Office, 3101 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20016-5098 or to the Air Force Memorial Foundation, One Air Force Memorial Drive, Arlington, VA 22204 .
