Obituary of Gladys Elizabeth Beckstrom

Beckstrom, Gladys E. Of Sterling, VA. On Thursday, April 5, 2012. She was born in Herndon on April 14, 1926 to the late Clem and Edna Burgess Farr. She is the devoted mother of Jane Beckstrom Kizer of Sterling, VA; Kenneth D. (Debbie) Beckstrom of Purcellville, VA and Patty Beckstrom Buchman of Virginia Beach, VA. Sister of Helen Gardner, Teany Flick, Gertie Gardner and Bobby Slaughter. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She graduated from Herndon High School in 1944. She was a bookkeeper for 35 years for Washington Hospital Center. Known as "Nanny" to her Grandchildren, "Aunt Glady" to her many nieces and nephews, and "Mrs. "B" to her friends and neighbors, she is remembered most often for her emotional support and encouragement to many during times of trouble. She kept a keen eye out of her picture window and kept a great phone vigil to keep up with those of us who were out of her site. Everyone recognized her for her independence, keen wit, sense of humor, and acceptance of our choices and directions in life. Not one to judge, but available to offer her experience and support.
