Bob's name and contact info is still in my contacts list and I don't want to delete it. I get a mental picture of his smile every time I see his name on my list.

I am saddened by the loss of Bob. My memories of Bob date back to my days as a teenage spectator at Marlboro and Summit, then as a co-competitor and finally as two fathers watching our sons from the pit lane. I'll miss finding Bob in the pits to get that friendly hello and tall smile.

I first met Bob when we were fighting for the regional racing championship in showroom stock at Summit Point Raceway. He was always a fierce competitor on the track and laid back, smiling and joking in the paddock. I like to think that is the way to live life and I'm grateful for his example. I am sorry I won't be present to wish him well on his victory lap but then, he has already jumped the start. steve smith

We come in contact with many people in our lives, but Bob was a person that made the world a better place for all that knew him. It did not matter how much time had passed since you saw him last, each visit was time spent with a great friend and someone willing to lend an ear or hand at each request. It will be great to see Bob again when we are called home and beyond this world.

Bob was a wonderful neighbor, a member of the Saffold Way brigade. He had a good heart and talented hands that remodeled our kitchen. His son and my son, Stefan, were good friends. My husband, Dale, who died of Parkinson's Disease last year, and Bob are now back together, drinking beer and discussing the world.

Bob was a well known racer in the SCCA community when he picked me out of the crowd and helped my racing career. Bob was instrumental in my joining the Trak Auto Racing Team back in the 1980's, which was a big break for a low-rent team like we were. The money wasn't much by today's standards, but it was a fortune to us at that time. Bob "put in the word" for us with the head guy, and then made sure we were full partners, not second-string. He was never heavy handed with his advice, just a pertinent question here or a key comment there was all he needed.
Bob inspired me to help out other up-and-comers along the way and was one of the reasons I instructed for the SCCA for 25 years. He obviously made a difference in this world. His passing was sudden and unexpected, but I suspect that he's already on pole position in his group up above. He will be missed.

Rob, when I joined SCCA in 1966, Bob became my friend and was a good mentor. When you began racing, he and I spent many events next to each other along the fence. You are in our hearts and minds. We will miss Bob a great deal. He left a bit of himself with us. Bill and Sue Davis

Bob will always have a fond place in my memory. When I was a teenager and trying to immerse myself in the world of sports car racing, Bob was an understanding and enthusiastic mentor to me as I began to earn my National Pit Marshal's license with the SCCA. Bob gave me every opportunity to become involved with the club and was never condescending. That entree into the sport has served me well. It's ironic, perhaps, that people come into our lives who help us make a turn that leads down interesting and unexpected roads. That entree into the sports car world led to employment in motor sports and later teaching. Bob was instrumental in giving me the confidence to follow that road. Bob also had a marvelous sense of humor. Once, during a race at Summit Point, when Bob was driving in Showroom Stock Sedans, he had a glorious spin in the Carousel Turn. I caught the moment on film, and was happily surprised to see a huge grin on Bob's face as he wrestled with the wheel to get the car under control. It says something about Bob, that while other drivers would have been startled or perhaps even angry at the predicament, Bob laughed it off. The world lost a good gentleman and sportsman with Bob's passing.

Some of my fondest memories are from the early Marlboro days, where Bob's sunny personality could always be counted on to smooth out the always present bumps in a racing weekend. Long after I retired, I found myself standing next to him at the Mid Ohio runoffs as he observed his son's race with visible pride. Rob: while you are no doubt feeling the loss, you have also been most fortunate to have a dad like him who could pass on his love of racing to you.

I'll miss seing Bob's smiling face. I met Bob when he first arrived in the Washington area from the midwest and showed up at Marlboro. He fit right in with everyone at Marlboro immediately and has remained a fixture at all the local races since then. Whether driving, starting, observing or mentoring Rob he has been a friend to all. We regularly shared emails and a healthy conservative position on all things. There always seemed to be a new project in the works. God bless him and provide him with fast smooth roads on his next journey.

Bob was a great competitor in showroom stock cars when I started. We both raced Opels in SSS at Summit Point and had some great races, along with Ed Allen and Steve Smith and Chris Kennedy and others. Time passed and I started racing against Bob's son Rob, and got to know Bob from a different perspective. Bob was very proud of Rob's success and enjoyed working with Rob, perhaps even more than he enjoyed driving. Bob's pride in Rob's success was the pride parents the world over have in their children's success. Bob sent me a nice email just a few months ago, unexpectedly, and I enjoyed it as always. My condolences go out to the family, to Rob and Amy. We will miss Bob but we will also remember him.
