Obituary of Mary Frances Cavanaugh

Mary Francis Cavanaugh was born in Emporium, PA in March of 1926 to Francis Joseph Cavanaugh and Mary Arnold Cavanaugh. She was the second oldest of 5 girls, Catherine ( Ann Francis), Margaret ( Peggy), Sarah ( Sally), and Ann. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her younger sister Sally. Mary was a devout Catholic. Mary left the Emporium area to go to Korea and Japan with the American Red Cross, she later was sent by the Red Cross to Morocco and France. Mary returned to the Washington D.C. area continuing with the Red Cross completing her Bachelors of Arts with Georgetown University and then her masters in Sociology with Catholic University. Following her schooling she worked until her retirement as a Social Worker with children in the Washington D.C. area. Aunt Mary was a beloved Aunt to David Diem, Mary Diem Szymanski, Michael Diem, Francis Cavanaugh, Cathie Diem, Nancy Diem Alexander, Shawn Diem Smith, and Jon Diem, numerous great nieces and nephews and Brother in laws Frank Phelan and Charles Diem. She passed away in Reston Virginia on May 12th, 2012. She will be greatly missed
