Obituary of William Edward Bridges

William Edward Bridges, Sr., 78, on Sept. 23 of South Riding. Mr. Bridges was born March 19, 1930, to the late Oscar and Gertrude Bridges in Clarendon, Virginia. The family moved to a farm in Chantilly, where Mr. Bridges and his siblings were raised. He served in the US Air Force and worked for the Smithsonian Institution, the US Postal Service, and in real estate. Mr. Bridges was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Eleanor B. Bridges, and a brother, Thomas William Bridges. Survivors include his wife, Betty Bridges, his daughter, Retha Lockhart and her husband John, of Sterling; his son, William E. Bridges, Jr. of Charles Town, WV; Grandsons, Christian Torrez of Sanford, NC, Corey Lockhart, of Sterling, and granddaughter, Amanda Lockhart, of Sterling; 2 great granddaughters; brothers, Charles Bridges of Great Falls; Robert Bridges of Washington, VA; and John (Jack) Bridges of Chantilly; a sister, Jane Jackson of Chantilly; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Adams Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, VA on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 from 1-2pm. A Masonic Service will start at 2pm with a funeral service to follow at 2:30 pm. The family suggests that Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vienna Office, 124 Park St., SE, Vienna, VA 22180 or the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, 43987 John Mosby Hwy., Chantilly, VA 20152
