I have fondly remembered Al every time I repeat Al's favorite phrase "There will be no jocularity at work!" (followed by a chuckle of course), or when I see an oversized pretzel container from Sam's club (which Al would enjoy in my cube while we chatted), when I wish I had someone to bounce work ideas off of, or more likley, to gripe about something at work! I hope his family can enjoy this Father's Day by remembering and celebrating his life. Just know that we in Las Vegas remember also.

To us, his uncle and aunt, he will forever be "Butch". I spoke regulsrly with his mother, Libby, by phone during the last two years of her life which she happily spent in his home. He made her last days happy and contented.
My first meeting with him was as babysitter, along with his aunt in Fairmont, WV, while his mother and grandmother attended his aunt Charlotte's college graduation. We also babysat with his sister Barbara. Butch was a "good baby" despite Barbara's tormenting him from time to time.
I also remember as a little boy when our family shared a vacation time with his family at Myrtle Beach, SC, where had an exciting time going crabbing. A few years later he and his family visited us in Terrace Park. OH (Cincinnati Area) and our fun time at Kings Island Park where he had a little problem in driving the race cars, but all turned out okay.
Our lives as a family took us far away frm family for many years, but we maintained contact, were blessed to be able in recent years to visit his parents in WV where we were always brought up todate on Butch and his family.
He will always be in our hearts.

I am deeply saddened to hear of this tragedy. Al was such a great guy who provided laughs as well as laughed along with you. Beyond that, he was a wonderful mentor and I can say I learned a great deal from him. I know he loved his family very much and that being on the road was a very difficult thing. We had a lot of time on the drive to the NTS so I heard many stories about his wife and kids that showed just how much he cared for them. He was there for me during personal loss and always offered a squeeze on the shoulder when times were tough. It really is just unbelievable and I offer my condolences to his family and friends. The world just got a little bit dimmer. Thanks Al for your friendship and you will be remembered.

My condolences and prayers go out to Al's family. Al was a wonderful mentor, coworker, and friend to me during his years in Las Vegas. No matter what the day brought Al was always there to give his best, lighten the load and distract you from your worries and concerns when you needed it. I spent many lunches with Al talking about family, sports or whatever the topic of the day was. He was a tremendous help to me personally when I became a manager. He was always willing to take on the toughest assignments and do it with a smile and never complain. He truly made my job easier. I learned so much from Al and I know he touched the lives of many others here in Las Vegas. He will truly be missed.

I was very sad to hear about Al's passing over the weekend. He was the kind of guy who always open to ideas and helped a lot of us "younger" scientists develop our skills. His laugh and stories were infectious and he was always one to show up for a happy hour to celebrate milestones and drill down on frustrations. I feel very fortunate to have known him during my career and will hold thoughts for his family and our fellow colleagues during this time. It is bittersweet that now I finally know what the N. stands for in Alfred N. Wickline. Bernie held on to that secret for probably the past 8 years. Godspeed Al. - jill

I did not work directly with Al, but our paths crossed often in the cubicles and halls and I have to say it was such a pleasure each time. His fun banter and wit warmed my heart and he made sure his teasing was truly in fun (I think!). I will miss him and I am sending good thoughts and blessings to his family and friends that loved him. I met Al working on the Nevada Test Site project in lovely Las Vegas. It didn't take long to learn he was a Mountaineer fan, and as a young WVU grad, he and I easily connected. I moved on from the NTS project 6 years ago but still miss Al's kind words, encouragement, and patience. He made my time at NTS more enjoyable and had a knack for making the most of any situation. His loss will be felt coast to coast. Peter

Al was a very special person in my life. Working as his colleague and then supervisor for many years, Al brought optimism and insights that were invaluable to our collective efforts. The times we spent on several significant proposals were some of the best times I have had in my 30+ years of work experience. Al was wise, funny and always upbeat even when the tides were against us. When Al left SAIC, it was one of the saddest days in my tenure with this firm. I don't think anyone fully understood his loyalty to SAIC. He bled SAIC blue and was not shy about telling you if asked. He sent me one of the kindest notes I have ever received as an SAIC employee on his last day and I will keep that in a special place. Our thoughts and prayers are with Al's family right now. For Al, farewell my friend...it was a fun ride.

Dear Sue, Beth, Megan and Kevin, You are in our thoughts and prayers and we wish you comfort during this time. Wick was absolutely wonderful and will be missed beyond words. We will always remember his great stories and are so glad we got quite a few of them, despite his objections and saying, "Oh... I have a good one, but I'll tell you another time." We will all miss him dearly and we're so grateful that Henry has had the opportunity to spend his time with such a wonderful family. Love to all.

Dear Sue, Beth, Megan, and Kevin, I wanted to offer you our condolences on the loss of a fine man. I have known Al since 1990. He was the first project manager I worked for at SAIC and eventually became one of my mentors. I always liked working with with Al and I am really going to miss his wit and his personality. He was a good man and a good friend. He always found time to help me professionally and I will always be grateful for that. I will always remember him and the positive influence he had on my life. He will be missed greatly.

We are deeply saddened to hear of cousin Butch's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with all his extended family. I have such great memories of the cousins playing together - climbing trees and going on hayrides - at the Baughman farm in Philippi, WV. And as a young girl, I was in awe of seeing the handsome Butch marrying his beautiful sweetheart Sue. May these happy memories bring you comfort in this difficult time. Much love ~

Words cannot express our shock at hearing of Butchs'" (as we knew him)passing. Our earliest recollection was as a baby when his mother and grand mother brought him by our home to be one of his earliest baby sitters , while they attended Aunt Nancy's college graduation in Fairmont. He will always live in our memories. We extend our condolences and prayers for the entire family.

Rob and I are so sad about Al's passing. He loved to share his vast knowledge with those of us who worked for him; helping us better understand our work. Al knew something about everything :o) He had a sharp mind and a witty sense of humor. It was apparent that Al was very proud of and dearly loved his family. Our heartfelt sympathies to his family who lost their beloved Al way too soon.
