Vena and I worked together in Centreville, and I learned quickly that she knew what she was doing, and that she had paid her dues. Her dry sense of humor snuck up on us all the time, and I remember her pearls daily! I hunted her down at home and called her just to hear her voice, encouraging barbs and to laugh.
I miss her already!

I started working with Vena back in 2003. At first I thought we were not going to get along because I heard her speak as straight and firm as anyone can be. But as time went by I started to learn that deep down inside, she was a sweet woman. Always offering any kind of assistance anyone needed. She was the mother at work figure that we all sometimes find. Vena will be greatly missed. I consider myself honored and privileged to have had the chance to know her. My deepest condolences to her Husband, Mike, and her children, Mike and Greg.

Vena kept a container of all sorts of candy on her desk. As you walked into her cubicle the first thing you would see was the candy container with various colors of candy wrappers and a spoon. And Vena would say have some candy, or if the container was low she would reach up in her overhead cabinet and get bags filled with candies and fill up her candy dish just for you. Thank you Vena!!!

I was blessed to know Vena as a co-worker at VEC. She was a special lady, and she will be missed very much. My heartfelt condolences are extended to Vena's family as her passing is mourned, but we rejoice in the Promise that we will be reunited with her in Christ.

Vena at lunch time in our office (VEC's Local Office in Alexandria) would occasionally go over to pick up her lunch at our local Cafe and then come back and sit at her desk to eat. It always seemed whatever she was eating would smell so good and make me hungry. One day I inquired as to what she was eating that smelled so good and she replied "Mexican Tortilla" soup. I told her that I was going to purchase that soup one day. However, before I could go to the Cafe and purchase the soup for myself, the next week Vena came to my desk and provided me a cup of soup which she had purchased for me. I had been only been working with Vena for only a short while, but that didn't matter to her, she just wanted to show her kindness. This random act of kindness was just one of the many things that she was known to do and just showed her caring heart for others. I will miss her deeply. My prayers go out to her family and know that you (we) definitely had an angel in our presence.
