Nancy Sasscer Baird, 76, of Plano, Texas, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Baylor Regional Medical Center in Plano, TX. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents Clarence DeSales Sasscer and Madeline Rogers Sasscer, of Arlington, VA and her brother John "Larry" Clarrence Sasscer. Nancy was born July 22, 1936 in Eastport, Maine after her father began working for the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Her family moved to Arlington, VA in 1942 and Nancy won scholarships throughout high school at Marymount in Arlington, where she graduated in 1953. She continued on scholarships at Marymount University in Tarrytown, NY where she obtained a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in French. Nancy in 1957 married David Stockwell Baird of Williamsport, PA, which ended in divorce after 19 years.
Survivors include her husband of 9 years, Edward Casper of Plano, TX; three children from the first marriage, Catherine Blanton (David John Blanton) of Plano, TX, David Stockwell Baird, Jr. (Lisette Lares Baird) of McKinney, TX, and John Baird (Mary Anne Seering Baird) of Charlestown, WV, brother, Richard Scott Sasscer of Silver Spring, MD; and eight grandchildren: Dannielle, Michael, Sarah, David III, Spencer, Jessica, William, and Madeleine.
Throughout her professional career, Nancy taught English and Special Education for the Fairfax, VA county school system, was awarded as a top customer service associate at Sprint, receptionist to Ross Perot at Perot Systems in Plano TX, and she retired from the Dallas Arboretum in 2005. Nancy was an accomplished artist, loved reading, literature, and spending time with family as the hostess for holidays and important family events.
