ROBERT A. DELPINO (Age 91)
On Thursday, October 11, 2012 died peacefully in his residence in Fairfax, VA. Devoted husband of 64 years of Gertrude Delpino. He is also survived by his four sons Stephen (Colorado Springs, CO), John (Rogers, AR), Joseph (Oak Hill , VA) and James (Southampton, PA) Also grieving his passing are his nine grandchildren: Heather Foy (Fayetteville, NC), Stephen Delpino (Harrison, NJ); Christopher, Michael and Gregory Delpino (Charlotte, NC); Nathan Delpino (Charleston, SC; Thomas and Catherine Delpino (Oak Hill, VA); and Dierdre Delpino-Dykes (Bethesda, MD). There are also five young great-grandchildren who will have to wait to understand what a great man their great-grandfather was.
A native of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, he graduated early from the University of New Hampshire and was commissioned in the U.S. Army in which he seved for 23 years and saw action in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. After his retirement from active duty he completed both his masters and doctorate degrees and became s a professor of Sociology at Delaware County (PA) Community College before finally retiring. During his post-military years he was a member of the Warminster (PA) Municipal Authority.
A lifelong avid reader and pet lover he was a devoted Roman Catholic and frequent visitor to his favorite sites in Ireland. His funeral services were conducted at St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church of Reston, VA by the Adams-Green Funeral Home of Herndon, VA.
