Obituary of Beth Wood Flickinger

Please share a memory of Beth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. William B. Flickinger (Beth), aged 87, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord peacefully on October 16, 2012 at her home in Herndon, VA after a brief struggle with heart disease. Beth was born July 5, 1925, in Woodruff, West Virginia, the daughter of Joseph Wood and Roberta Robinson. Beth met her husband, Bill, in Washington, D.C. in 1947 upon his return from military service in the Azores and Europe during and after WWII, and she enjoyed her married life as a homemaker for thirty-five years before his premature death at age 61. As a family, they travelled throughout much of the world while fulfilling U.S. federal government assignments, with residences from McLean VA, to Manila Philippines, to Croughton England, and finally to their beloved retirement home on South Court Street in Luray, VA. Beth moved to her present residence in 2007 to be nearer to her family and grandchildren but spoke regularly of also missing her beloved mountain-view home in Luray. Beth is survived by her four sons: William B. Flickinger, Jr. and wife Linda of Reston, VA, Stephen L. Flickinger and wife Elizabeth of Birmingham, AL, Jeffrey L. Flickinger and wife Kathleen of Mechanicsville, VA and Jonathan D. Flickinger and wife Charlene of Sterling, VA; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. There will be a private graveside service [for immediate family members] at the Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper VA where she will be interned with her late husband, William B. Flickinger. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to Vitas Hospice of Vienna, VA. or Comfort Keepers of Herndon, VA.
