Hello - I was your dad's and George Dalferes (sp?) secretary when I first got out of college. Your DAD looked out for me so much!! When I didn't get a promotion, which he knew I should have, he said "we're going to Orlando to visit Martin Marietta." Well, we did!! We flew together and I felt like he was a second father to me!! I am now a 30-year retired teacher living in Orlando and often think of him when I drive by "Lockheed Martin." God Bless!!

The Dunn Family, My deepest condolences for your loss. The first time I met your father I was an infant so I don’t remember much, it wasn’t till almost 40 years later did I meet him again in Locust Grove with my father. Your Dad and mine flew together in France in late 50’s early 60’s time frame. Harry was someone you never forgot after meeting him. The conversation I had with him stayed with me and influenced a lot of my thinking. I will always appreciate his correspondences and warm heart towards our family.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Harry after the publication of the book Dunne: People and Places. Harry was very interested in Irish history in general and in the Dunn(e) family in particular and we had many great conversations via e-mail and phone. Myself, Helena and our three children stayed with Harry and Evie in their home in Virginia in the summer of 1998. Harry took the family up in his private plane which was a fabulous experience. We also have very fond memories of meeting Harry's extended family and spending time in the boat on the Lake of the Woods.
On his trip to Ireland in April 1999 Harry met some of my extended family including my uncle Joe, a veteran of the Irish Guards in WWII. Joe was delighted to meet 'The Colonel' and discuss military matters. Harry spent some time in Dublin where he did a deep dive into the archives. He completely lost track of time and one morning in the middle of sifting through his latest trove of information he discovered that he was due at Dublin airport in less than two hours for his flight home! He packed in record time and actually made the flight with a few seconds to spare.
Harry played a significant role in the inaugural Dunne clan gathering in Clonaslee, Co. Laois in June 2000. He gave the opening address as well as putting together the 'Irish Stew' CD which contains a vast amount of historical and genealogical information relevant to the Dunn(e) clan.

To the Dunn family, I'm so sorry for the loss of your dad BIG PAPA Dunn! He was truly a great man, a father and grandfather, husband, friend and huge father figure to me. I will always remember him with his gruff exterior but warm playful heart and his pratical jokes on me. He will be sorely missed.

Harry and I went to Texas from Florida together to fly B25s. Shortly into our first flight with the instructor on board we soon realized that our landing gear would not go down. After talking the people on the ground and other maintenance people it was decided that the hydraulics needed to be cut. As the co-pilot, or because no one else would do it I was sent down into the tunnel to cut the hydraulics with a fire ax!!! I had to cut a hole in the body of the aircraft and use a hack saw to cut the line. As I was down there doing this Harry was trying to get the gear down and land the plane while bouncing it off the ground. We did this for about 4 hours until we got the gear down and were able to land the plane. While in the tunnel I cut my wrist but also cut off my watch in the process. It was Harry's great idea for me to put in for re-imbursement for my watch and so I did!

Our first night solo in San Angelo TX flying the B25. The instructor, who was just as young as us took us for our instruction for a total of about 10 minutes. So Harry and I are on our way, he the pilot and me the co-pilot. Harry pulls the nose up to get airborne. I look to my right to see Harry and his seat sliding back. He continued to slid back until the seat fell off the bulkhead. He got up off the seat found a clipboard and was able to fix the seat and jam the clipboard in between the latch so that it would stay. We finished our flight safely never said a word o anyone until the time was right. A great story that we were able to laugh about for years.
