Thanks to Google, I just learned of Pete's passing. I've known Pete from our service together in the United States Senate in the late 1960s. Before he moved to College Park, MD, Pete and I regularly had lunch together in Bethesda, and since those days, we kept in touch by telephone. We had some wonderful conversations -- about the Senate, Republican politics, and foreign affairs. I tried to reach Pete recently and found that his telephone was no longer in service. I am deeply saddened by the news of Pete's death and will miss him very much indeed. To his family, please accept my sincere condolences.
