I worked very closely with Ned when he was in Islamabad, Pakistan, and visited often with him and Polly at their home here and met/traveled with Mary when Ned conducted a GSP team on tour in the USA. I was welcomed by Ned and Polly in their home as a younger brother - or a son - or so they made me feel. They were both so kind and thoughtful and wonderful. Ned made many contributions here to GSP and he was able to do so because of the respect he had earned owing to his knowledge but more so because of his sincere and honest demeanor. What has happened is in the way of things and eventually everyone leaves - one after the other - but it does happen - and we pass on. But it is is also in the way of things that each such passing reminds one of the times spent together - and to feel sad. I am more saddened when I think of what Polly must be going through. Ned is fondly remembered in Pakistan.
