On Monday, January 7, 2013, Roland Provencher died at his home in Reston, Virginia, after a long struggle with brain cancer. He was 60 years old. Roland was born in Lewiston, Maine, in 1952, the son of Emile and Adrienne (Labrecque) Provencher. He attended Holy Cross Elementary School, St. Dominic's High School and in 1975 graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Theater and Communication. Having a variety of interests and being well read and a hard worker, Roland then became involved in a diversity of professions including television, glass blowing, woodwork, jewelry, sales representative and shelf designer. In the early 80's, he moved to the D.C. area and eventually became a full time employee in the food broker firm of Advantage Sales and Marketing where he worked for over 30 years, until his illness obliged him to gradually retire. In the early 2000's, he began a shelf design business and through this he met the love of his life, Sally Spence. They were married in 2009 and settled in Reston, Virginia. Roland is survived by his beloved wife Sally; his sister Sr. Jacqueline Provencher OP of Sabattus, Maine; his brother Donald Provencher and wife Gretchen of Gainesville, Virginia; a nephew Dennis Provencher, wife Vanessa and their two sons, Chase and Alex of Rockville Maryland; a niece Michelle Provencher Perera, husband Jeremy and their three children, Andrew, Joseph and Matilda of Chicago, Illinois; his mother-in-law Mrs. Anne Spence of Pleasantville, Pennsylvania; his brothers-in-law, Stan Spence of Leesburg,Virginia, and his two daughters Emily and Laura; Joe Spence, wife Lauri of Oil City, Pennsylvania and their three children, Bethany, Sophia and Jack ; and Mark Spencer, wife Robin of North Tonawanda, New York and their two children, Heather and Jonathan. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law William Spence and close friend Barbara Mosgrave. A sensitive, creative, loyal and loving person, Roland will be greatly missed by his wife, family and many friends. The viewing and funeral will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013 between 10 AM and noon at the John Neumann Catholic Church in Reston, Virginia. Burial will take place at the Fairview Cemetery in Pleasantville, Pennsylvania on Friday, January 11 at 1 PM.
