Rad and Teri were our next-door neighbors when my husband and I lived in Reston. Rad taught me all about Purple Martins. He had a beautiful white Purple Martin birdhouse that he would put up every April 1st. Thanks to Rad, I have become a true bird lover. Lynn Matter Konwin

Since I am unable to attend Uncle Bill's Memorial Service, I would like to share my thoughts about my Uncle. I will always be very grateful to my Uncle Bill and all that he did to help me when I was much younger. When Uncle Bill heard that I did not have a summer job during my college years and the prospects of me finding a job looked unlikely, he did not hesitate to reach out to his colleagues within the Government and find me a summer job. He did not stop at this point. Uncle Bill also opened his house up to me and gave me a place to stay during my first summer working in Washington. I still clearly remember many of the conversations that I had with him while sitting at the dinner table. I found our conversations very fascinating and enjoyable for he gave me different ways of looking at things in life. Uncle Bill generosity did not stop with just me. He also helped out my bother Ron and sister Judy when they were young. Over the years, my brother, Ron, and I had many conversations about how the two of us really owe so much to our Uncle and all that he did to help us. I am fortunate enough to have this opportunity to convey my thoughts about my Uncle to other family members and friends. I will miss him and I will always be appreciative for what he did to help me.

My thoughts will be with you all tomorrow as you say good bye to a wonderful man...my Uncle Bill was a very special man to me, we became close in the years since my father Jim's death. I enjoyed my conversations with both of your parents before Aunt Terry's death and since then with your Dad. When I was little, he always had such cool things to show us from his travels, sent me many dolls from around the world and just played with two little, my sister and I...very special memories...I will treasure those always. He is now reuntied with his true love whom he missed so much...God Speed Uncle Bill and say hello to my Dad and Mom for me...all my love...your favorite niece :-} Lynn

Dear Uncle Bill,
Thank you for being a part of my life. You meant many things to me over the years. As a child, you were my exciting and fun Uncle who was already ready to take me and my family on the next adventure whether it was motoring down a river, indulging at a 50's burger joint, or visiting local sites. I was a fan, hanging on your every story and joke. To a shy and awkward teenager, you were an interesting teacher who knew the details around the experience at hand and took the time to share them. And you were always welcoming to family. But some of my fondest memories are those of this past year. I so enjoyed our chats. We talked about nothing in particular but it gave me the opportunity to be with someone I loved and who had given so much to me. I will miss you.
