During my somewhat challenging teenaged years…as the younger sister of Larry's girlfriend and first wife Mary, I was the subject of his (affectionate?) seemingly relentless teasing. Noting that Mary and I had 4 older brothers, we were quite used to some hard-nosed teasing but Larry really knew how to push my insecure teenage buttons at a time when the brothers had moved on to other things. I tried to laugh a lot but did a bit of crying inside.
But he was there for me when it counted. In my junior year of high school, major parent/teenager conflicts were going on and someone wisely thought that a cooling off period was badly needed. So me and my little dog Fang were invited to move in with Mary & Larry at their little rented farmhouse on Rt. 50 in Fairfax with their just born baby girl Penni. More understanding than the parents but still firm, I had a blissful 3 - 4 months with them until Larry got transferred by Honeywell to Phoenix. Times babysitting baby Penni were magical …friends were allowed to come over (if we behaved!)….heck even one time they ok'd a small party!
I doubt I ever gave appropriate thanks to Larry (as I am sure he was "convinced" by Mary) …but in later years when I had a successful family life and career, I am sure he knew in his heart that his and Mary's open arms were a pivotal point in life for a confused teenager. Thank you Larry!

Evie and I spent several years living either next door or just down the street from Larry and family. They were wonderful years, blessed by knowing and being friends with him. Larry could always be counted on to help whenever and however he could, whether it was by lending a hand, lending a tool, or lending his knowledge. He helped me out several times over the years. I've missed that since we moved away. I've become the type of person I am in part because of what he shared. One of the earliest times I remember he helped was when he and I carried a microwave oven from his house, where Linda and Larry had kept it hidden until Christmas Eve so I could surprise Evie. There are many, many other times he helped in one way or another.
Larry, Linda and their girls, Heather and Tiffany, also spent several weekends camping with our family. What enjoyable times they were and will continue to be a part of our treasured memories.
Thanks Larry. Love you Linda, and all the rest of you too.

Losing a parent/spouse/relative/friend is never easy. The pain is eased by celebrating his life. My closest memories of Larry are from a much earlier time. Those are good memories of some real fun times. (if capsizing a canoe and hiking many miles in the dark and storm, or getting a jeep stuck in the woods, or "roughing it" living off sunfish and learning how many mosquitos there are in Bull Run, can be considered fun). Those memories are how we will always remember him. There was nothing better than being outdoors and enjoying life, no matter what it brought you. Larry left a great family and that plus those good memories is as good an obituary as any man can hope for.
