Please share a memory of Margret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margret Ann Adams was born May 21, 1921 on a ranch in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado in Rio Grande County. In high school, she was a cheerleader and senior class president She attended Colorado State University, in Ft. Collins, CO. In 1942, she completed a business course in Salt Lake City, Utah while living with her grandmother. It was there she met her husband Lt. Lyle Adams whom she married August 27, 1942 at Tucson AZ. Following WWII, they owned and operated a Western Auto store in Richfield Utah. In 1950, they moved to Wheaton, IL where Lyle finished his college degree and she worked in the Admissions Office at Wheaton College. In 1952, they moved to Denver, CO where Lyle attended Denver Theological Seminary and she worked as a secretary to the president of Rockmont College. It was there, that their only child Rebekah was born in 1955, while Lyle pastored his first church. In 1956, they moved to Detroit MI where they lived for the next 26 years as Lyle pastored Trinity Baptist Church.
During 30 years of pastoral ministry she exemplified a pastor's wife. In addition to this important accomplishment of wife, mother (and grand daughter to three grandmothers she cared for over a number of years), she began working in 1969 as Social Worker and Activities Director at the Middlebelt Nursing Center. She was so successful in this capacity that she was asked for a number of years to teach an annual training course for Activities Directors conducted by the state of Michigan . She was absolutely dedicated to maintaining and improving the quality of life for her nursing home residents.
In 1982, they moved to Sarasota, FL, where once again she worked alongside Lyle as he was the administrator of Springwood Nursing Center and she worked as the Social Worker. Following retirement, they basked in the sunshine of their beloved Siesta Key. For years they maintained duel residences in Florida and Virginia. They did this so they would be near their dearly loved grandchildren, Daniel, Peter and Katie, taking them to endless sports practices, ballet lessons and picking them up from school. In 1996, they became some of the first residents at Falcon's Landing, a retirement community built by the Air Force Retired Officers Community. They lived there, enjoying volunteer work at The Store. In 1986, they moved in to the Westfall's Assisted Living Community, also part of Falcon's Landing. Again as some of the first residents. They were well known there, especially for their friendly greetings to all as they came and went in the dining room. In January of 2012, they moved to the Johnson Center at Falcons Landing. Lyle and Margret celebrated an amazing milestone of 70 years of marriage on August 27, 2012. Margret passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013. She is dearly missed by her devoted, loving husband Lyle, their daughter and son-law, David ad Beky Hazelton, and their three grandchildren Daniel, Peter and Katie. She will be missed by all who knew her for her sweet spirit, tender generous heart and love of laughing and joking with everyone.
