Obituary of John H. MacGregor

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John H. MacGregor, 70, loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, compatriot, and Cold Warrior peacefully left this life April 29, 2013. John was born in Erie, Pennsylvania to Herbert and Elizabeth (nee Huntley) and became an electrical engineer upon graduating Carnegie Mellon University after attending on a music scholarship. He joined Electric Boat and began working for his country soon thereafter. In 1966 he crossed the Atlantic with his beloved wife Lynda and newborn son John Lynn on the USS United States in order to serve in West Germany. He spent more than four decades working on six continents in multiple roles in service of his country, often far away from his wife and by 1970 three children. In particular he served in West Germany from 1966 to 1969 and in South Korea from 1985 to 1989. He retired from government service and soon returned to support satellite information studies. Family and friends appreciated John's mentoring, support, relentlessly dry wit and indefatigable devotion to family and country. Nobody seemed to mind John and Lynda's self-taught mastery of gourmet cooking and entertaining either. He despised warfare and believed applied intelligence was its antithesis. Both a viewing and an informal reception will be held at the family home in Oakton, Virginia from 3 to 5 PM on Saturday 4 May, 2013 with kind assistance from Adams-Green funeral home of Herndon. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation at VasculitisFoundation.org .
